Tiffany Lucida on the Open Market?

Hello,

I am another newbie but have found this board extremely helpful. I particularly enjoy the threads for/against Tiffany, there are clearly some strong opinions on both sides of the fence. I am glad we stick to diamond conversations and avoid politics....

Thankfully, my better half has not fell into the Tiffany blue box syndrome. However, we do love this diamond, can anybody else truly replicate this cut and to what precision (under a different name of course) or should i try to find a real Lucida on the open market?

I am pretty flexible on the diamond:

Weight: 1.0-1.25
Clarity: VS1-VS2
Color: F or better

Is it critical to go with a colorless diamond on this cut?

Are there any reputable dealers for the Tiffany Lucida? I have noticed Signed Pieces mentioned many times on this forum, any other recommendations?

Antique and estate jewlers the world over have the Lucida, it''s just a matter of finding that needle in the haystack of exactly what you want at the right time and right place. Also, you have a very common request, so that makes it a very difficult search, but doable if you have time and patience...

If you want a similar stone, try the "Lucere", Hearts & Arrows Square, and a variety of other stones found at Good Old Gold, as they can replicate a similar looking setting and save you the money. Tiffany will cost more, and if you are not willing to pay more for the brand and exact setting and stone, then maybe it''s not worth it to you. To me, there is nothing like the original, but maybe it''s not worth the price for some?

As far as the setting Robbins Bros sells the exact thing but from Ritani? Can''t remember the designer. Someone else probably knows the online vendor who copies.

Bee would know, she has the lucida if I''m thinking straight.

I can't help you with where to get one other than signed pieces or as nicrez said, at estate jewellers, however just with the color-I have an I Lucida and it's extremely white so I wouldn't worry about going completely colourless with it. Best of luck hunting one down.


ETA-there is the vatche setting which is quite similar but the stone is patented so it will be very difficult to find one the same. Although you could get a similar look if you go with a vatche setting and the stone that nicrez mentions.

It does seem a bit high for second hand-we got a 1.23, I , VVS2 for just over $13,500 in the tiffany store in NY last July. I''d probably go straight to the store if they were charging that.

They sell second hand at Tiffany stores? Wow, that seems to be contrary to the Tiffany brand.

Yep Gypsy has it right. I was just saying that for a little bit more you could get a new one from the Tiffany store.

I believe bee* had mentioned somewhere on one of my threads that my PoH (cut corner square H&A from Good Old Gold) was similar to the Lucida and Nicrez just mentioned square H&A stones, so that might be an option for you as well.

Here are a couple similar pics of both (hope bee doesn''t mind

) so that you can see some similarities/differences. But, if she wants Tiffany... something other than Tiffany may feel like settling to her. So, you can get the Lucida new at Tiffany or pre-owned through Signed Pieces or estate jewelers or go with something similar but not exact. And as bee* also said, the Vatche setting is similar.

Hi there! Unfortunately no other diamond cutter can cut you a Lucida diamond. It is patent infringement. But you can get a second hand Lucida from various places, including Ebay. Or you could get a different cut diamond that isn''t subject to patent protection and lots of vendors could create a Lucida setting. But the value of the Lucida ring is almost entirely in the diamond cut, b/c from an invention perspective, it is really significant. The Lucida setting is made *for* the Lucida diamond, so I can''t see any huge reason to want the setting if there was a different cut diamond in it. This is just my opinion. If you love Lucida, (and it is really beautiful), then you ought to think about either getting a smaller one new from Tiffany OR a used one. So long as the Lucida ring you buy used is in fact a Tiffany original, Tiffany will honor its commitment to service the ring. So, if it has any scuffs on the band for instance, you can take it to the Tiffany store and they will send it to NY and have it completely refurbished. I have had this done for me when I have bought Tiffany jewelry from Ebay, such as a charm bracelet I bought a few years ago. There is a charge to have it done, but your ring would probably come back looking like new.
