So, I''m addicted to the 18k yellow gold Tiffany Setting (the one that''s actually from Tiffany''s). On the website, it gives pricing for .5c and 1c, but I think I''m in the market for something like .75c. Even though .75c isn''t an option on the pull-down menu, can you still get a Tiffany Setting with a .75c diamond?

Secondly, how much do you think that would cost? I think my boyfriend won''t be paying more than 5k, probably more like 4.5k. The 1c diamond Tiffany yellow gold setting is 7.3k, so do you think a .75c would be in our price range? I''m not really interested in look-alikes, because in my opinion they just lack the grace and elegance of the original.

Which Tiffany setting are you referring to?
I think you will have a hard time staying within the 5K budget for a Tiff ring unless you are wanting replies for vendors who make a similar setting?

There are a number of pricescope vendors here that make the Tiffany look a like, and it is very graceful and elegant looking. You can do so much for your budget in term of stone size and get the most for your bucks if you forego "TIFFANY" , unless you are set on a Tiffany? if so, can you give me reason as to why you want a Tiffany?

I'm actually in nearly the same situation as the poster. 1st post here, so that was kind of funny :)

I've been looking around for a ring for my impending engagement, and Tiffany .75c is one i was considering. I had my Father drop by Tiffany in Oakbrook, IL yesterday and get me an idea for what it would cost. The amount is as follows (this was for a classic Tiffany setting in Platinum, however, so keep that in mind - probably $500 or more difference in cost).

.83c F color VS1 clarity, classic Tiffany setting in Platinum $7750
.83c F color VVS1 clarity, classic Tiffany setting in Platinum $8500

I'm sure if I pushed more into the .75c range, they'd oblige, but that's what they offered.

I would say that for your $5k budget, the thing to do would be to get into a Tiffany & Co. and see what they can work out for you. Tell them your budget and stick to it. If the ring just isn't what you'd like for the price, then just look elsewhere.

I, for one, am looking to get my diamond online and save on the taxes (the prices above do not include sales tax). I will probably get a nice, elegant classic setting from a local jeweler and have them set the diamond into it. That way my gal can get the setting worked on locally if ever needed :)

I reeeeeally like the idea of getting a Tiffany ring. But I think there's just too much chance to get way more ring for my money, and I'd rather save the money for our impending honeymoon, home purchase, furniture, whatever.

By the way, for your budget, I''d say you''d be looking at a Tiffany .5c - which would still be gorgeous!

I saw a .73 Tiff solitaire on Ebay for $3850 Buy it now - it was platinum, so that may eliminate it for you. Came with all pkging and cert''s.

I think you can certainly get a yellow gold classic tiffany with a close to .75 center stone for $5k. You just need to be willing to go down to a lower color and clarity. If you call your local Tiff''s they can tell you for sure AND call in a few rings for you in your price range if you want.

I agree..and I also agree that there is something special about the original tiffany so if you can get what you want in your budget than I''d go for it!!

Right on all counts. The setting is owned by them. Similar settings are similar, not the same. If you insist on them calling it in, you can find the lowest color and clarity in the yellow gold Tiffany setting, thus maximizing size. I would just be very clear of your goal, and ask them to do it in resolute but gentle terms. You also have the option of working with a different Tiffany store if you find you don't like the SA and manager. If this is your dream, please do it. There's no reason to be dissuaded. And then please come back and show us pictures.

Tiffany sells diamonds down to I color and SI1 clarity. I would start your search there in the 0.5ct range and see what you can price. Otherwise, think about a pre-owned Tiffany ring. Keep an eye on Signed Pieces and Ebay if you''re willing to go that route. Good luck!

I''d send them an email. I emailed them prior to getting my ring and told them my budget and they emailed me back different specs on rings and held some of them for me so I could see them. Keep an eye on signedpieces.com too which sells second hand tiff jewellery.

Note that the drop down menu says, "Priced from . . ." so those figures could be on the low end.

If you are set on Tiffany''s, then you may need to accept a stone that''s closer to 0.50 than 0.75. If size is important to you, make sure your boyfriend goes for bigger carat weight and lower color and clarity (I VS2 or thereabouts) when shopping at Tiffany''s. As you saw from Stonecutter''s examples, higher color and clarity will definitely bump you out of the 0.75 carat size range.

Or, you might decide that you don''t want a smaller stone and decide to look elsewhere. Have you perused the Show Me the Ring Thread? There are many, many pretties to peruse that have both grace and elegance. You might find something you like just as well as the Tiffany''s and be able to get a bigger stone.

I looked at that Tiffany''s solitaire on eBay . . . did you guys notice that it''s a 60/60 stone? Just because it''s from Tiffany''s doesn''t mean the cut will beat what you can find elsewhere.

Well, I think I I''d be willing to go as low as I color and SI1 clarity. I know I should really just call Tiffany''s to figure this out, but to be honest, it''s all a little premature as it is. My boyfriend and I have barely talked about it, and I don''t think we''re getting engaged very soon, but I just decided I should figure out what kind of ring I would want for when we do get engaged. I figure 5k is what he could pay, but I''m just guessing.

So I guess the question is, might a .75c, yellow gold, I, SI1 ring possibly fall under 5k?

I''d say that it''s still a bit more than 5k even if you go I/SI1. I''d just send them an email and they''ll email you back a price.

I wouldn''t be too intimidated by Tiffany prices.

I just got a 1.02 ct H VS2 for $9,400. Matching the cut (scored 1.1 on cut advisor) to a comparable pricescope stone, I calculated the "Tiffany" brand cost me about $1,500.

That''s worth it in my book.

Their cuts are very good, you can go down in color / clarity and get a beautiful stone.
