Hello everyone,
First time poster, but have spent a large number of hours on this forum learning from past topics! My partner recently proposed to me while away for our anniversary. He decided to do so without a ring, instead purchasing a gorgeous necklace with an engagement ring on it. He said he wanted me to design a ring that I wanted and made me happy. He had apparently for months been contemplating the direction he wanted to head with the ring. Purchase it before proposing, or allow me to choose the ring! I am very happy he allowed me to choose the ring that I wanted, as I am a bit fussy in the designs I like.
Originally the plan was to use my nanna's diamond to create a design I wanted. The past two weeks I spent looking in jewellery stores trying to decide on a design I liked. I finally made an appointment with a designer and got the diamond examined. It was extremely disappointing to hear that it was low in almost all the C's, in particular the cut. After a weekend of discussing it with the fiance we decided not to use the diamond. We are on a pretty strict budget, as he is trying to save for a house on his own (I am still at University) and spending a fortune on an engagement ring isn't an option.
He said last night though (completely out of nowhere), I know you have always dreamed of having a tiffany engagement ring, if you want to have one you can get one..BUT you have to realise the diamond will be smaller than if we bought the diamond elsewhere and designed our own engagement ring. I haven't been living under a rock and certainly realise that tiffany is ALOT more expensive than the other options out there, but the setting is absolutely stunning and I am yet to see a replicia look identical.
Now my question: I am looking at a minimum of .50 carat diamond. Our price range is around the 5,000-6,000 mark. I am interested to know what I could pick up carat wise with that price range. Over .50 carat would be amazing! I know that tiffany's have a certain range they stick too in relation to colour and clarity, so I know either way I will be getting a good quality diamond.
What what are the rough prices?
