Dear members, I'd like your opinion on a Tibetan amber I have for sale.
What value do you think it'd be?
My father got it from a Tibetan friend Lobsang during the 1970s when we lived in Nepal.

Best wishes.

Interesting! And welcome!

Without a report, I would not be able to distinguish it from resin/polymer/reconstituted.

I am struggling a little to gauge scale from anything in any of those photos (except maybe the Post-It note on the wall). Dimensions and weight would help. How big of a lump can amber come in, anyway? Also, not too familiar with the opacity of this specimen but I am guessing it is less desirable than the transparent variety?

Hi Lil Alex, thanks for your reply.
What do you mean by a report.
Is there anything I can provide to get a better price quote?
Or is there another place I could ask?
Than k you

This is not a forum for getting "price quotes."

You will need a report from a recognized lab in your country that confirms that it is genuine amber and untreated, etc. Forgive me but it looks like a lump of plastic and we do not know Lobsang.

That's all I got. Others may be along with their opinions. Best of luck.

It doesn’t look like amber…?

But anyway, nobody can give you a quote here but I would be surprised if you got more than a few dollars for it

maybe butterscotch amber ?
does it float ?
speaking from someone who has experience in being ripped off over 'amber'

Just going by a quick search of "Tibetan amber" on ebay, it doesn't appear to be worth much, if that's what it is.

But you might want to look around on there yourself and see if you find anything similar. Scroll down and click on "sold listings" to see what's actually been paid rather than just what a seller has listed unsold items at. You could also try looking for similar items on other sites, that might have more to do with items from Tibet.

Good luck and I hope I'm wrong. Of course I could be, especially if it's an artifact or other additional factor. I'm wondering what those markings on it are. Do the holes go all the way through, like it might be a pendant? Do you know any more about it? :)
