Hey Everyone,

I have been in the process of discussing/planning my proposal for close to a year now. Including saving and outlining a good clear budget. I have stumbled onto three rings (via BlueNile) that fit the criteria that I wanted. I have been a lurker of this forum for close to a year no as well. I was hoping I could receive some input from this great community. I have mainly focus on the cut and clarity of the diamond. I wanted to have a size between 1.5-1.7. These are the three diamonds that I am looking at:

Diamond #1 - https://bnsec.bluenile.com/bnsecure/certs/6265157153.pdf?params=Y291bnRyeT1VU0EmcHJvZHVjdD1CTiZwaG9uZT0xLTg4OC01NjUtNzY0MSZsaW5rPWh0dHBzJTNBJTJGJTJGd3d3LmJsdWVuaWxlLmNvbSUyRl9MRDA4OTkzNjQ2JmN1cnJlbmN5PVVTRCZsYWI9Z2lhJnNrdT1MRDA4OTkzNjQ2Jg==

Diamond #2 - https://bnsec.bluenile.com/bnsecure/certs/5253062212.pdf?params=Y291bnRyeT1VU0EmcHJvZHVjdD1CTiZwaG9uZT0xLTg4OC01NjUtNzY0MSZsaW5rPWh0dHBzJTNBJTJGJTJGd3d3LmJsdWVuaWxlLmNvbSUyRl9MRDA4MzQ5Njg2JmN1cnJlbmN5PVVTRCZsYWI9Z2lhJnNrdT1MRDA4MzQ5Njg2Jg==

Diamond #3 - https://bnsec.bluenile.com/bnsecure/certs/6252941092.pdf?params=Y291bnRyeT1VU0EmcHJvZHVjdD1CTiZwaG9uZT0xLTg4OC01NjUtNzY0MSZsaW5rPWh0dHBzJTNBJTJGJTJGd3d3LmJsdWVuaWxlLmNvbSUyRl9MRDA5MDI1MTE3JmN1cnJlbmN5PVVTRCZsYWI9Z2lhJnNrdT1MRDA5MDI1MTE3Jg==

Well I added a 4th, - https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...i-color-vs1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-3231394

Thank you all in advance for your help during this scary (LOL!) time :) :wink2:

Hi and welcome. None of the stones that you are looking at are well cut stone. They are all outside of the ideal range proportions:
Table: 54-58
Depth: 60-62
Crown angle: 34-35
Pavilion angle: 40.6-40.9

Here is a beautiful stone that fits your presumed budget:
https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3858598.htm

It is smaller than your ideal range, but it will be hard (read impossible) to find a well cut stone in the 8k range that is 1.5-1.7ct.
Can you please provide your max budget including setting and explain the setting type you would want?

Thank you for the reply! This is why I came here, I would have never of known the ideal range proportions.

Budget w/Setting - $10,500
Setting - Solitaire 6 Prong, Platinum

Hope this helps!

I'm not sure if this stone would be eye clean "enough" for you, but it would be for me. It checks all the boxes and has a 1.8 HCA. It's more of a 60/60 stone (7.41).

Here is another... HCA 1.0 (4 excellents)... again, another 60/60 (7.44 mm) it would be a matter of it being eye clean. It looks like it would be eye clean. It also looks like a "high" I and has MBF, so it would be my choice of the two.

Sorry for my amateur question :-). But how do you find the HCA on a Diamond? Thanks for the suggestions.

There is an HCA calculator on PS, and you plug in the numbers. :)

With BN links, you have to hold down the Ctrl key when clicking on them. :)

Okay, so I looked at your diamond... The thing I notice is how the arrows don't meet neatly in the center. This might cause issues with light return or make it look darker in the center.

That was my favorite one.

Thanks again for all of your help. I originally was looking for a 1.75-2.00 carat but it didn't fit within the budget. From what I have seen 1.5 is still a decent size.

You're welcome! 1.5 ct is a very nice size -- what size finger does your FF have? I can post a photo to show what it would look like on her finger. :)

Her size is a 5.25 finger. That would be great!

Thank you! From your experience, is an I color fine?

Yes, I currently have a 3.33 ct I in a six prong solitaire. The larger the stone, the more apparent the tint -- and it is very white to me. (see avatar)

Last question, Would you suggest platinum over white gold for setting? I like the 6 prong you posted.

If you could swing platinum, I would get it. I love the heft it gives to a solitaire, and you never have to worry about rhodium plating. The color really makes my diamond pop. It will patina over time, but you can always have it polished.

They are very similar... I actually like the 1.5 ct more, I believe. It looks cleaner and the arrows are fatter. The size difference will not be noticeable (only 4% larger), therefore not worth the jump in price.

The 1.50 is on the L and 1.60 is on the R:

Thanks! Still keeping the 1.5 at my #1 then! You have been such a huge help, I cannot thank you enough.
