Thoughts when first viewing custom ring

I'm new and have been loving reading everyone's posts and seeing all the beautiful pics. Very inspiring!
My boyfriend and I have just been to a local jeweler who is going to custom make my engagement ring. I have my heart set on an oval diamond of approximately 1 ct with a fine halo and fine diamond band. He showed me some of his previous work and has very good reviews so I'm feeling pretty confident that he will produce a quality peice of jewelry.
I was just wondering though - how everyone felt when they went to pick up their ring (if you got it custom made). I've been looking at the pics and trying to visualise how my 1ct oval will look with the halo but I guess it's difficult to actually see the size. It seems like 1ct with a halo looks pretty substantial (in terms of size) but my question is - did anyone get a shock when they picked up their ring? As in, did you think it was bigger or smaller than what you thought?
I tend to like a biggish rock (not Kardashian style of course) and am concerned that I might be imagining my ring will be much bigger than it is!

Bigger or smaller, no, because I saw my stone beforehand and I don't have a setting that morphs the apparent size of the stone as a halo does... when I pick up new pieces I'm in full critique mode, and I never expect perfection - I fully expect that something will need tweaking. Vendors are perhaps surprised when my first call isn't merely glowing ooh/ahh/gaga... that comes later, once everything has been (or arrangements have been made to get everything) sorted to my satisfaction

Have you ever worn a ring on that finger before? If not I suspect a 1ct oval in a halo will be quite a large, blingy look!

Cut out a piece of paper with your stones dimensions. tape it on your finger. Imagine a halo around it.

I've never worn a ring on that finger before so I guess I will most likely be pleasantly surprised
Just went and tried on some rings actually at a couple of jewelry stores and found that the setting makes a huuuuge difference in how big a stone looks.
