Please provide me your thoughts on this diamond.

My parameters were as follows:

Princess Cut
caret: .5
Color: D-F
Cut: FL - VVS2
LW: 1-1.02
symmetry: VG - Ideal

It has a slightly thicker girdle then what some would consider tolerable; I enjoy it's brilliance. I have a very strict budget of 1150 and found this appealing at $1139, I am having it evaluated by an independent appraiser. I have about two weeks before I would have to return it to be under the 30 return policy. I am hoping that it appraises for 2-2.5 times in purchase cost. I'm somewhat of a novice on the matter of diamonds, but after seeing it, I believe this to be a solid value for the money. Any help or additional advice is welcome. I'm really trying to get solid value for my money.

The appraiser will be able to tell you what you need to know.

We have no information to work with, as blue nile provides nothing except the cert.

The main question would be why you're so strict on color and clarity. Almost no one can tell the difference between an F-VVS2 and an H-VS2 without magnification.

No, you are not, because
A) It wouldn't mean that you got a great deal, just that your appraisal is dreadfully inflated, and
B) Despite paying insurance premiums on the "appraised" value you can rest assured that should you ever need to replace the stone, your insurer will either replace with like kind/quality or cash out only up to what they consider an appropriate replacement value at that time - which sure as heck ain't gonna be double what you paid for a stone like that!
Unless perhaps the replacement occurs twenty years from now, in which case you'd have been better off paying lower premiums that reflect the actual replacement value and re-appraising every few years to ensure you're sufficiently insured...

I think you could have gotten a larger stone for your budget if you had gone down a bit in color and clarity and could have found a gorgeous stone that was absolutely eye clean. Remember, you're not going to be looking at the diamond under a microscope once it's set. You pay a very high premium for an F-VVS2.
