I''ve been reading this site for awhile, tried to get as knowledgeable as I could, and have recently been searching for a round, ideal-cut stone for an engagement ring. My target price is around $10k.
Through a connection, I have the opportunity to buy a diamond from a true diamond wholesaler -- that is, this company provides diamonds to retailers and has no public store. Unfortunately, most of their stones are EGL USA certified.
I saw the following stone -- a 1.54 ct., I color, VS2, EGL USA Certificate -- $8770, supposedly ideal cut.
I had a Sarin run and got the following data:
Diameter: 7.53 mm
Depth: 4.53 mm
Crown: 34.0 (angle), 14.7%
Pavillion: 40.6 (angle), 42.8%
Table: 4.234mm, 56.2%
Culet: 0.7%
Girdle: 2.3%
It scores a 0.5 on the HCA.
This stone looks like a good candidate, but I''m concerned by its EGL USA certificate. I know EGL USA is better than the other EGLs, but it''s still not as credible as a GIA or AGS certificate. This I, VS2 stone, if certified by GIA, might end up as a J, SI1, right?
Your thoughts?
