Well, after being a member of this forum for so many years now I finally have my own stone to consider. I''m currently in the process of designing a necklace with the help of my boyfriend as a Christmas present. He doesn''t know a thing about diamonds and while I can''t claim I know anything either I think I have at least a better grasp of things than he does. We know that surprise won''t be a part of the process since he is really relying on my help. We just reserved a diamond from Good Old Gold and I couldn''t be more nervous. It looks like a great stone and I really love the look of it but I''m worried about a potential inclusion near the table. I want to take this process slowly and not make any rash decisions but this stone really caught my eye and I couldn''t risk someone else grabbing it before I had a chance to fully mull things over. I''m still waiting to hear back in regards to other stones but this one is my #1 so far. Then we have to move onto the setting which I have no idea what we''re going to do.
Anyways, I should probably get to the good part, the stone that we put on hold. It can be found here. I''m looking at something between the .4 - .6 carat range and we really don''t want to spend more than $1200 on the whole thing so this stone is at the top part of our budget. Here''s the specifications:
Shape: round
Carat: .058
Color: J
Clarity: SI2
GIA Cut Grade: Excellent
AGS Light Performance: Ideal
Optical Symmetry: Superior
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: Medium
Culet: None
Lab Report: GIA
Table Percentage: 55.89%
Depth Percentage: 61.34%
Crown ∠: 34.59°
Pavilion ∠: 40.74°
The stone is eye clean and according to Sarah it is a real great stone. My only reservations is that one inclusion and the fact that it is a J. I do love the look of a warmer stone but I wonder if a J might be too warm for a necklace? I think that is about it. I guess I''m just looking for some reassurance that this is a nice looking stone. I think it scores a 1 on the HCA or something similar to it but can''t remember off the top of my head. I''m incredibly hopeful but would like to know if there''s something that I could be missing. Thanks so much for any thoughts that could be passed my way. It has been great reading everyone''s journeys over the years!
