Thoughts on this round please?

Hi all,

I’ve posted a few times over the years. Well today (after 6 years together, and 4 young children including newborn twins) my partner finally said to me ‘I think it’s time you chose a ring’.

Due to a few reasons I have been considering lab grown for a number of years. Price being the main factor. Here in Australia prices aren’t too bad, and I can get a much bigger diamond for our budget than if I went mined.

Would love thoughts on this round please? We have a meeting with this jeweller in the coming weeks so am looking at their current inventory. Originally I was looking at under 1ct rounds but now considering over that as our budget can stretch.

It’s CVD treated, not sure if HPHT is better?

Would love thoughts on any other diamonds in their inventory?

My ideal would be:
G-D colour
Ideal cut
VS1 or above (unless there is a great VS2)
Budget: under $2k AUD

Setting: 6 prong round solitaire with pave band

That link does not work for us. Can you post a link to the stone itself?

The stone looks great. Here are a few more options I found.

Oh amazing thank you!

Is there much difference between CVD vs HPHT created? Or it’s more the other aspects of the diamond (cut/colour/clarity) that are the main factors to consider?

You can find good stones with either method, but there are more things to watch out for with CVD stones such as haziness or birefringence. CVD does tend to be cheaper. Once you've ruled out issues from either method, cut is definitely the most important aspect.

Thank you so much for all your help, I really appreciate it! Is haziness or birefringence something that would be mentioned on the certificate? Or only something you observe when looking at the stone directly?

No, they wouldn't be mentioned on the certificate. It's best if you have a vendor who can vet these issues for you. Otherwise, you might be able to spot them yourself in the magnified videos. HPHT is generally a "safer" choice.

Both have their things to watch out for. HPHT stones can have a blue cast to them (even if not noted on the cert) and CVD has the potential issues listed above. I have beautiful stones from both methods so you really just have to do your due diligence in choosing a stone. One is not better than the other or guaranteed to be without issues.

Thanks so much for the reply. So I’m assuming the vendor should be able to help me in choosing (or avoiding those issues). I’m worried that they’ll just be ‘sales people’ or not knowledgeable enough. Especially when I’m trusting them as although I’m trying to research as much as possible I’m obviously not an expert by any means!

Post stones you are interested in here and people will give you advice.
