Thoughts on this Radiant?

You are correct - you can't really tell by the GIA report alone. Numbers wise, looks in proportion of a nice shaped radiant stone and the specs seem ok. Have you viewed it in person or received pics/video to see it in action?

Hopefully RockDiamond will show up = he's a whiz with radiants!

Thank you Enerchi!!!
Hi radiantbuyer......um, you've already answered your own question.
No one on earth can have ANY idea whatsoever what a given radiant cut diamond looks like based on the GIA report.
Any answer given is completely irrelevant unless that person has actually looked at the diamond, in which case, they can give their opinion- which may not not match yours.
Speaking as a professional, there's nothing on the GIA report that raises a red flag, but that is by no means an endorsement.

The diamond might have a patterned look, or it might have a more random, non patterned brilliance.
We cant tell the size or angle of the corners- a crucial aspect of how the diamond looks

Thanks for the replies! Rockdiamond... my question is more about the little GIA drawing that they do of the diamond for the facet pattern or whatever. My concern is that is looks different than most of the others... I guess it shows the corners being more cut or something??? is this something that I would notice in person in your opinion?? Would you notice once it is set?? I have yet to see the stone but I am going to have it pulled in and reviewed by a professional. well...i am if you say I should?

Not sure my last post made total since. The corners appear to be cut differently than say an "original radiant cut" but yet the facet pattern appears to be the same idea. My question is "would I notice a difference in the corners as compared to a more traditional rectangular cut cornered? ....or would i notice once it is set? or is this something that you cannot conclude until you see it in person?

Hi Rad,
The GIA plot is not indicative of real life proportions- which then means that we can tell nothing about light performance from the plot....sorry....

I know the report and the GIA plot can't show me anything about light performance. That is not what I am asking. I am asking if the plot will be indicative of how the corners are really cut. I'm trying to figure out if this a bad looking plot? (as compared to maybe an Original Radiant cut or something like that?) That is more what I am asking. Have you had experience with diamonds with the plot that looks like this?

the plot does not indicate actual corner size- facet size or placement
This means that even if I'd seen a diamond with an identical GIA plot it can look totally different in real life.

Thanks! Seems weird that they make them look different if the plot really means nothing. Thanks for making the consumers confused GIA! haha. Thanks for your help. Guess I will just have to call it in and take a look.

You're totally welcome!
Just so you know, your questions are incredibly common for educated diamond shoppers.
Furthermore, there's a weird demographic where some diamond designs are far easier to evaluate using reflectors as compared to something like the branded Original Radiant which shows a distinctive lack of patterning.
This means a greater ease to get online advice for a diamond cut to show patterns, which then become easier to evaluate using ASET.
But I think buying a diamond specifically because it's easier to evaluate online is connecting the wrong dots, as it were.
To me diamonds represent a more visceral experience.

IN fairness to GIA- the report itself is not necessarily intended to be a self-explanatory consumer product. It really does take some hands on experience to be able to thoroughly evaluate/assess a diamond, even with the GIA report in hand.
But as I mentioned, assessment is not necessary to feel what many people feel when they see a diamond.
The plot being 2D, while the diamond being a physical object make it very difficult to graphically represent.
Sometimes, for example, a facet pattern on the pavilion ( bottom) of the diamond creates a pattern on the top of the diamond in real life. There's really no way to represent this on a piece of paper.

I wish I could be more helpful, but it's really necessary to evaluate diamonds hands on

There's absolutely no way to tell from the GIA report- and I'd have to say that in general, its not common to see such corners on a colorless radiant cut .

Geez!! I know! we already clarified that the GIA report does not reflect this information....that is why I said "I have a feeling it will more closely resemble..."

While I am fully aware that I will never know until I see it in person, I just happened to find one on YOUR website with the same looking GIA plot and the diamond had bigger but corners (like the plot shows), so I thought I would mention it. The plot of the diamond on your website certainly shows bigger cut corners, and so does the diamond that it goes with... And so does the plot of the diamond that we are discussing on this thread.

I was simply mentioning it in good fun discussion and anticipation as I wait until it arrives for personal inspection. Sheesh.

Sorry, did not mean to sound so severe. I see what you're saying about the GIA report, and the corners. I still think it's pretty unlikely for most people to find a colorless radiant with corners like this. I hope you do find what you're looking for!
