I am considering purchasing this stone from Good Old Gold for my engagement ring.

Princess 1.347 G VS2 AGS Ideal

Does anyone have any thoughts on it? Should I be concerned at all with the inclusion on the corner for mounting?

The LightScope analysis looks pretty good to me. But I am quite a novice. Can anyone comment on it or anything else?

With all the praise I have read about Jonathan and GOG, should I still get the diamond independently appraised before purchasing?

Thanks everyone!
- Dan

The diamond sure looks stunning to me!

I would contact GOG and ask them about the inclusion to make sure it does not affect the integrity of that corner. I can't even see the report clear enough to determine what type of inclusion it is (feather is my guess).

As for an independent appraisal, you are going to need an appraisal for insurance purposes...

This one looks amazing too, Dan! It''s a good thing that the inclusion is in a corner...you can cover it with a prong! Voila, it''s gone.

It sure looks like a nice stone. I''m not an expert and I''m a somewhat new member on this forum, but from the threads I''ve read, it sure appears the people at Good Old Gold represent fantastic quality and have a lot extremely happy customers.

As a person who just got a good stone that is GIA Graded and is also G VS2, I can tell you unless you plan to offer a microscope to everyone you show the ring to, no one will ever be able to see any inclusions in a stone of this quality.

Good luck,
Rod

Here''s a picture of the corner inclusion zoomed up really close (and yes, it is a feather).

Girdle thickness is 0.14mm (2.4%) and considered Thin on the Sarin.

Other than this single detail, everything else is great. Am I being paranoid for no reason? Or should I rightfully be concerned?

It really is quite ironic since I have heard it''s better for the inclusions to be at the corner so they get covered up. Now that I have an example of this, I am worried about structural integrity.

Man, you''d have to be "Super Man" to be able to see that with the naked eye. For some people, knowing there''s an inclusion is an issue, but for me, if I can''t see it with my own eyes, it''s just not an issue. What I wanted in my stone, was maximum fire and scintillation. That''s what people will really see. I don''t think there''s a person on the planet who could see that inclusion at all.

Awesome princess, love it!!!!

Sounds like a great stone to me! But I am sure GOG will advise you about the corner if you ask.

I just wanted to say something about an appraisal. The last time I got some diamond jewelry, our insurance company accepted the sales slip for the proof off value since the items were pictured and described on there. I knew that the appraised value would be waaaaay more than we paid, and I honestly had no desire to pay the insurance premium for an inflated value. I would never, ever pay full retail price for an expensive piece of jewelery anyway, so there is no point in paying an inflated insurance premium. The only person who benefits from that is the insurance salesman!

So to answer Dan, find out exactly what your insurance company requires as proof of value. I personally wouldn''t worry about getting an extra appraisal for diamonds purchased from some of the companies we see frequently recommended here since they seem trustworthy and I don''t want to pay an inflated premium.

Thanks for all the input everyone!

Just to clarify on my clarity question, I am definitely NOT worried about being able to see the corner inclusion with the naked eye. There is no issue there. The only worry I have is whether this inclusion in combination with the Thin girdle is a risk for chipping (or at least more of a risk than the average Princess cut). I love everything else about the diamond, otherwise I would just move on and search for something else. But I would hate to pass up on this because of a concern that is unwarranted.

BTW, I do fully plan to speak with GOG about this concern in depth. Just trying to see what I can get from the knowledgeable people of PS at the same time.

Thanks!

I was thinking about that diamond too but it was a little out my price range so i ended buying the the 1.19 E on GOG. I purchased it on tuesday and received it today and it's beautiful. i was concerned about the clarity(SI1) but GOG told me that they can't see and they were right. I can't really see it. These past few days i think i called GOG like every 30minutes. They were probably getting sick of me but were still cool about everything. I think you should just contact GOG and ask for an advice on that inclusion issue. I'm really loving the whole AGS Ideal cut. I can't believe how much it sparkles. Even though i feel like i might have paid a little premium because of the whole AGS Ideal Cut, I feel like it was worth it for me. I just didn't want to take a chance on the cut by just using the numbers especially b/c i was going to purchase it from the internet.
I couldn't do any work today because i was keep on pulling the ring box out my pocket like every 5 minutes to check out the diamond. I can't wait to see my GF's face when i give her the ring tomorrow.
