I am in the market for an oval diamond engagement ring, halo setting with side stones (18ct white gold).

The jeweller I'm currently talking to has provided me with a reasonable quote, however I'm still a bit of an amateur and would appreciate any insight you might have on a) the suitability of this diamond for the aforementioned setting and b) whether a quote in the vicinity of US$7000 is reasonable for this finished piece.

I appreciate the "C's" are a good starting point, but my knowledge starts to diminish after that when talking depth, table etc. which I am told is very important, particularly for a 'fancy' cut such as an oval. Any comments would be very much appreciated!!

0.85 carat, D, VS2 (GIA)
Measurements: 7.54 x 5.43 x 3.25 mm
Depth: 59.9 %
Table: 57%
Girdle: Slightly Thick to Thick, Faceted
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Very Good
Clarity Characteristics: Crystal

I am by no means an expert but I am pretty sure for ovals you would need to provide photos to determine if it is recommended or not.

Do you have any?

Another not oval expert but lover of ovals here and one thing you need to make sure of is that the oval doesn't have a big bowtie and you definitely should see it in person if possible. And evaluation with other tools that could help determine if it is a beautiful oval. I am sure the experts here will be chiming in soon. In the meantime please add pics if you have them. Good luck. A beautiful oval is a gorgeous stone for an ER.

As the others have pointed out, fancy cuts can not be evaluated by the numbers. We need up-close images, asets, and videos.
Get as much of that as you can and post please.

As mentioned,
- minimize bow-tie
- look for nice oval shape (no shoulders), good length to width ratio
- nice faceting pattern that returns light well

Agree to all the above points. The stats you listed tells nothing about how sparkly it will be in person.
