Thoughts on this diamond?

Hi all,

I am working with a local jeweler to get an engagement ring made and they just ran this diamond past me to see what I thought about it. I haven't seen the stone in person yet. My budget for the diamond is $5,000.

Here are the specs:

Shape: Round Brilliant
Measurements: 6.07x6.10x3.79mm
Cut: AGS 0
Light Performance: AGS 0
Polish: AGS 0
Symmetry: AGS 0
Color: G
Clarity: VS2
Carat: 0.86
Depth: 62.2%
Table: 56.7%
Crown Angle: 35.1
Pavilion Angle: 41.1
Cost: $4,850

Thanks for the help!

I concur with tyty333. Numbers stack up to me. Would be pictures time (i.e. Scope images) for me before making any decisions. :)

Thanks for the replies!

The girdle is thin to medium and the fluorescence is negligible. My jeweler has a H+A scope they said I can use to look at the diamond when they call it in from their vendor. I'm not sure if they have an ideal or ASET scope at the store but their vendor might, I'll ask.

The H+A scope should give you some info as to how symmetrical the stone is. If the Hearts are misshapen, or the V-clefts in between are positioned too close to the hearts, that would be a deal breaker for me (unless the price was right :) )

Is it strange or uncommon for the diamond to be AGS 0 but have a HCA score of 3.2? What do these numbers really mean?

Thanks.

I just found the exact diamond (same AGS number) listed on b2cjewels and adiamor for ~3.3k. That's almost 1.5k cheaper than what the jeweler was going to sell it for! I was expecting little bit of a markup for buying local but that seems like too much.

I've also attached a photo of the AGS light performance predictor from the grading report. It looks a little wonky compared to other AGS0 diamonds I've seen but I'm unsure how a computer generated image translates to real-life performance.

Anyone have any idea if this seems right or not?

Thanks :)

The computer generated ASET images on the grading report have more often than not lined up with a photo taken using an ASET scope once the stone is back at the vendor (based on the stones that I've been looking at for my wife's push present over the last year). While the proportions initially looked good, after seeing that ASET computer generated image, I'm not sure that I'm liking that stone your jeweller suggested so much anymore. :? :errrr:
