Put a deposit on this diamond, having a mold made for the ring...and over the weekend I did a bit of research and the EGL certified is making me nervous. Thoughts? Looking at the diamond, it was nice..but I'm very clueless with diamonds. My concern is the diamond may not have the same specs if it was GIA certified. Really I probably wouldn't know the difference, but I want to know what I'm buying.

That's not even a full EGL lab report. It looks like one of those gem card things.

Um. No. Stay away. EGL is false economy. Give us your budget, shape, color and clarity preferences, and we'll help you find something safer.

Is there suppose to be a full lab report? I asked and this is what I was given.

My budget is between $4k - $5k for the diamond, .9 - 1ct in size. I've put a deposit on this one, but I've sent an email asking for any diamonds that he has with GIA reports

2 options presented to me with GIA reports

SI1/E/very good/.9ct - $6500
SI2/F very good/.9ct - $5850

These seem quite overpriced for the specs...should I stick with the above F diamond with EGl report that I first picked or entertain one of these? I'm also thinking about just buying a loose diamond online instead, but I put a deposit down to hold the EGL F colored diamond, so I feel kinda obligated to buy the diamond from them....

help

Cut is most important, if it just says "Very Good" then that not good.
Do you need a high color? because for that price you can get a good clarity H&A in I (still very good color for a round) for that price

but if you wanted to stay thhat high of color an clarity thats about the price but foe an ideal cut stone. which is the most important part

ETA dont feel like you have to get one from them. can you get the deposit back? Could it be applied to a setting so you can get the diamond online yourself? I think buying online might be your best bet :wavey:

I wouldn't see why I couldn't get my deposit back, I was not informed it isn't refundable. I would have no problem getting the setting from them and buying the diamond online. I would prefer to buy the diamond from them also, but these 2 options do not seem very good.

Do need high color? I have no idea to be honest. I just want an eye clean, nice, shiny diamond...the bigger the better, for between $3500 - $5000 preferably. This has really been a learning experience and I've stressed myself out to the max!

Can some of the forum pros make some suggestions for the center diamond? I'm in Canada, so I would think a Canadian supplier is better?

Help :)
