Thoughts on this diamond before I pull the trigger

Bad News! I missed the boat on the 1.7 for $10k that I wanted to purchase. Any thoughts on these two:

So out of the two I would pick the 1.56 carat

Yes....don't! That stone is too deep making it face up smaller, the crown angle is way too deep as well. Not a well cut stone.

Stay within these parameters:

Depth no more than 62%
Crown angle 34-35
Pavilion angle 40.6 - 40.9
Table 54 - 58

Can you tell us how you came to choose that particular stone? Why you thought it was perhaps the one to buy? Just curious.

There is almost a .30 difference between the two stones you are considering. I don't know what criteria you are using to select them for consideration but the HCA rates them as 2.7 and 2.8 respectively - very good cut/worth buying if the price is right.

No, I'm sorry but I wouldn't go with either. I'd keep looking using the guidelines previously posted.

HCA says 2.7 - worth buying if the price is right. I found another I, VS2 stone for 3k more so the price could be in your favor here. However, there are no gifts in diamonds and they are priced according to their attributes. At this point, I'd say take a look and let us know what you think. Examine it in as many lighting conditions as you can and check to make sure that it meets all of your eye cleanliness requirements.

I wouldn't worry about HCA that much. I've seen quite a few AGS ideal 0 diamonds that will score a 2.6-2.8 on the HCA. It penalizes some deeper crown and pav combos but AGS says the light performance can still be ideal.

HCA is the Holloway Cut Advisor and can be found at the top of the page under tools. You can input depth, table, crown and pavilion angles on stones. It doesn't help you select a stone but will help you weed out those less than desirable.

I prefer the Ritani stone. Better angles. The JA stone angle combo is out of my comfort range and it scores 3.9 on HCA. I see the Ritani stone is sold. Did you bring it in to get eyes on it? If you did, did you not like it?

I LOVED it! However, it was the first diamond setting I've ever seen so I had no clue what to expect.
