Hi All,
I posted a couple of weeks ago on an I color EGL cert with a high table, which did not do the trick for this crew. Here is my second attempt. I know the table should probably be smaller, but it does seem to "perform" well. I can sometimes see the inclusion if it catches the right light... I''m having a hard time finding a diamond in our price range that seems to fit the criteria that I''m following: 1.5 Carat Cushion; Depth: 58-65; Table: 55-65; L/w: <1.3; F-G Color; VS1-SI2. I''m going to LA Jewery District tomorrow so I might find something else. If I have to sacrifice something, what should it be?

Carat: 1.51
Color: F
Clarity: SI2
Depth: 64
Table: 64.4
Girdle Depth: (not on grading report that I can tell)
Girdle: Thin to slightly thick
Polish: Good
Symmetry: Good
Culet: None
Fluorescence: faint
Measurements: 6.92 X 6.65 X 4.28
Report: GIA

Thank you all in advance!

size.
get the best cut that meets the rest of your criteria.
of course, if size is more important to the wearer than anything else, then you will have to find something else to sacrifice!

compare as many cuts as you can. cushions have many different looks. find what appeals to you most, and go for it!

best of luck!

Thank you so much, Belle. I really appreciate your input. I have been having a hard time determining what I should get for my girlfriend. I want to get the most perfect diamond I possibly can, and I''m just having a hard time realizing that I''m going to have to sacrifice something. I''m sure I''m not the first one to run into this dilemma, so I would love to hear from more of you about your thoughts.

My cushion's table is 70%, depth is 53.9%, and it is beautiful. Don't go by numbers, go by what your eyes tell you. It's an I/SI2 (eye clean). 6.93mm x 6.01 (1.08 ct). I had no idea what the specs were when I picked the ring, I just knew I liked it based on my eyes. Good luck!

ETA: Sacrifice not in size, but in color. That'll bring your cost down. Don't ever sacrifice cut (the most important C). Of course, I sacrificed in clarity, but it looks good to my naked eye.

you''re welcome principeazul. the best advice i can give is to see as many diamonds as possible and try to do it out from under the bright jewelry store lights. the more diamonds you see, the better you will be able to determine where you want to make your little sacrifices to find your perfect stone.

We have been looking at a variety of cushions. She''s looked at several other cuts, but she''s definitely drawn to the cushion. Of these we''ve seen at least a dozen in the last month or so. By my untrained eye, the recommended table and depth do not always seem to correlate to more brilliance and fire, as I think Lizz and Belle are saying. Given that we live in LA, we''ve been making appts. to vendors at the LAJD in order to see as many diamonds in person as possible. Ok, after too many Saturdays to mention, we''ve made a decision. Drum roll, please!

Cushion Square Modified Brilliant
Carat: 1.71 (Wow)
Color: H
Clarity: VSI (I really wanted a V)
Depth: 72.2
Table: 66
Girdle: Slightly thick to very thick facets

Symmetry: Good
Culet: None
Fluorescence: faint
Measurements: 6.73 X 6.37 X 4.60

I forgot my camera! Darn. It is really firey and definitely her fav.

Lizz,
I just checked out your cushion. It''s lovely. Funny, we''re planning to get a halo setting as well, similiar to HW pave sans the price tag. That''s again for your your input.
