thoughts on this cushion?

Interesting contrast pattern.
This is probably the steepest and deepest cushion cut that I've seen so far.
My concern would be areas of increased leakage/windowing (outlined below), especially with that sizeable culet facet...and why did the cutter not keep the pavilion pointed?
Get rid of an inclusion?
Hide some faceting precision issues that a pointed pavilion would reveal?
Create a unique reflection pattern on all four sides of the crown?
All in all, it's hard to say without advanced images.

I did find this square cushion cut that has faceting in the style of modern brilliant, so that you can compare. 6.62mm vs 6.36mm, so it'll face up a little larger.

I did find a similar cut over at DG so that you can see what a properly cut version should look like (this one is slightly rectangular at 6.7x6.1mm

Looks like its trying to mimic an older cut diamond. You'd probably have to look at in person to see if it appeals to you. I think New World Diamonds has it listed as an old mine cut.

Agree with DejaWiz, the faceting pattern leaves a lot to be desired. That’s why the price is crazy low.

This exact stone has come up a few times in this forum. IMO, It’s really up to your personal preference on how you feel about that strong Maltese cross center :)

I couldn't help myself. The price dropped by $150. So I ordered it "just to see" and it has arrived.
To me it looks huge and so far I don't mind the strong Maltese cross. Maybe I am easily pleased but I love it :) I will most likely keep it but will take some time to make a final decision.
Pictures to follow. Sorry no videos at the moment.
Comments pro and con are welcome.

Wow! So exciting that you bought it. The price definitely is great! Thanks for sharing photos, so interesting to see more of it via pictures. The Maltese cross definitely is showing strong in some angles but that’s not a good or a bad thing, just comes down to preference.

I think if you like the faceting then you got a great deal and it’s the one for you. Definitely think about it and keep looking at it!

I think my favorite part of the Diamond is the crown.. looks very high and chubby :)

Would love to see a video of it in motion if you’re able but know but I know it’s a lot of steps to upload a video here.

@AL12 yes I love that high crown!

How are you feeling about it now that a few days have passed? Is it a keeper?? How is it performing under different lighting?

@AL12 I still like it but can't help but think maybe I should keep looking to find something bigger and better! :) So if it were up to me I would prob return it.
But my husband has fallen for it and wants to make it into a necklace for me for our upcoming anniversary :cool2: Who am I to argue with that?
So it looks like it will be here for a while so hopefully I will get some video.
Now off to look up threads on pendants! Most likely I will bezel or faux bezel it.

That’s exciting! I think less pressure to put it as a necklace but still money on the table so you should love it too!

Keep us posted on your progress please!
