Thoughts on this antique cushion?

Too rough for me without a recut.

I wonder if you can get David Atlas to consult on a video... get an opinion from him and whether he thinks cleaning up the girdle would
be possible and worth it. It does have some mushy area in the middle where it looks like you will see more color. Not sure if that could be fixed. Wish you could get an outdoor video to see how it reacted in the sun.

Thanks! Would it be a real "recut" or just cleaning up the facets?

Not a fan-- "mushy" faceting under the table. It's a little shallower than I prefer for cushions, this might be why it's a little mushy? What faceting pattern were you looking for?

Would you mind posting a face up photo of yours, ROL? I know it took you ages to find your stone, but it is well worth waiting for one that is beautifully cut, in my opinion. Yours and a couple of others are great examples of finely cut antique cushions.

Here's redwood's and another unidentified one (wonder if it is ROLs first cushion, because I loved that one, too??) that I like in addition to ROL's holy grail fabulous current cushion!!! (Post your old one, too. I think it helps in searching to have good examples to go by.)

I like it. But it depends on what you are looking for. For the price, this is a very nice stone IMO. The color is pretty, the crown is nice and high (it does not appear overly shallow to me). I don't see any glaring faceting issues. It really depends on what you are looking for. You will wait for a perfectly cut cushion, for years. Likewise, if you are looking at paying $18k for almost 4 carats of VS1 antique diamond that has a pretty cut, you won't find that easily. I don't know how the cut of this stone will play out in terms of light return. But the video to me shows a lively nicely shaped stone. Personally, I'd check it out.
