Hi guys, first time poster here! I've been reading the forums for a few months now, soaking up all the great information. I came across this diamond via the pricescope search and thought it was too good to be true. Its stats seems pretty good for the price. Am I missing something here or is this really a great deal?

Thanks in advance!!

Jen

Cut grade is only good.

I only started my diamond quest about 2 weeks ago so I won't pretend to know a lot. But what I can see is that the girdle is very thin to very thick. I've read from quite a few places this this is undesirable. I assume this means the the girdle is inconsistent. Also it is deeper than most people recommend, but it still got a score of 1.1 on the HCA . Since it only has a few inclusions I would imagine that the crystal identified on the reference diagram is fairly substantial.

The guidelines I have been going by are posted below:

depth - 60 - 62%
table - 54- 57%
crown angle - 34- 35 degrees
pavilion angle - 40.6- 41 degrees
girdle - avoid extremes, look for thin to slightly thick, thin to medium etc
polish and symmetry - very good and above

I think if price and size are your biggest concerns you probably cannot beat that by much though.

It has proportions that merit a 1.1 HCA, but what you're missing is the crazy uneven girdle that goes from very thin to a very thick.
Not good. Probably why it only merits a good cut grade.
Sure it's a lot of stone for not a lot of money, but it's for good reason. It's basically warped, can chip easily, isn't great for ring setting and the very thick part hides carat weight in a place where you don't want it to.

The girdle was the red flag for me. Thanks for chiming in!

Yes, the girdle was the red flag for me. I couldn't understand how it could go from very thin to very thick. Thanks for your thoughts!

Why don't you check this guy out? See how much bigger its diameter is when you only go up a little in carat. Its because that last one was holdings its weight in its girdle.

Wow, you're right! Thanks for pointing that out! We're trying to stay under $15k though. Really we were looking for something in the 1.70ct range but that 2.0ct caught my eye at that price. Guess we'll have to go back to our original search!

You are looking in the same range that I am. Though, I am on a bit more of a budget than you are. With your budget, I would look at some stones in the Whiteflash ACA series. The seem beautiful and so far the people on that site have been extremely helpful and nice. This guy looks nice.
