Thoughts on this 2.6ct or this 3.4ct diamond? *long*

Hi there! I'm an old member, back again on Pricescope now that my wife wants to upgrade my diamond. (Also, where did Gypsy go?)

I'd love some help! This could get long, so thank you in advance for reading this ;)

I'm looking for a 2.6-3ct RB, OR a 3.4ct RB (more on the 3.4 later)
For the 2.6 - As close to 9mm as possible
Ideal cut
Would LOVE to keep it to G or higher in color, but may go look at some H's in person to see if it looks yellow to me
VS2 or better clarity, unless a SI1 is eye-clean

Here's the deal with budget. We spent $16,129 on my current diamond (1.7, G, SI1) with Eternity by Yoni. He has a 70% upgrade policy unless you double the carat size, upon which it would be 100% of the original purchase price.

So, I have $11,290 in credit for a 2.6+ carat diamond and can add about $19K towards the new diamond. (total about $30k)

OR, I could apply $16,129 to a 3.4+ carat diamond and add $19K to the new diamond. I realize I'd have to drop down to an I color, SI1 to even get close. (total about $35K)

According to the Pricescope tool, this is probably my best bet for a 2.6 that's close to 9mm:

And here is the only 3.4ct that I can find in my budget. Thoughts? Is strong fluor that big of a deal as long as it's not hazy?
https://www.eternitybyyoni.com/diamond_detail.php?id=2593644&ref=pricescope

What would you do? lose $5k in credit and get a smaller, better diamond. Or go HUGE and sort of take a hit in quality (well, I know what PS would say - but I'm not willing to go down in cut quality)?

Can anyone find me better options that Yoni would be able to source (aka not WF/BGD)?

Thanks so much if you have made it this far!

Meant to add that I have a 60/60 diamond now and don't mind them. I like the extra spread they give

Interesting choice !

I was just about to write that the 3.4 is not even pretending to be H&A which is PS's straight & narrow ... (while you were writing that this is not a concern)

Then, I noticed that the the same picture appears for both diamonds.

Ha. I know. Wish there were actual photos!

Gypsy has moved on to being a trade member and posts off this forum under another name.

So, I think I understand that you need to stick with DiamondbyYoni. Can he call stones from the general pool or are you limited to what is on his website?

EDITED to remove my confusion over size. You have 1.7 and are looking to upgrade. Misunderstood and thought you had 2.6. Carry-on!

I believe he can source other stones, so the more suggestions the merrier! Thank you!

So, AGS 2.6 is more like your familiar 60/60. Big table with a preference for white light over fire. The 3.4 is very interesting to me. If it was sent to AGS, it likely would get a Ideal (as long as the GIA rounding did not go the wrong way, but still an Excellent). An I with flour (assuming it is not one of the uber-rare ones with haziness from it) is a plus. So, I think the 3.4 is worth asking for an ASET, photo and video. Both need careful scrutiny for eye-clean status.

2.6 arrangement
This give you amazing size within budget, but it has a dark inclusion on the table. Does this knock this out for you? It otherwise is great size and cut.

Need and ASET (or IS if unavailable)
https://www.bluenile.com/diamond-details/LD08695155 {nice balanced stone with a 55% table, so will have great fire, just under your 9 mm goal}

3.4 arrangement
Wildcard suggestion. This is a really nice M color diamond. Cut looks great. Clarity impeccable and its 4.02 carats! :cool2:

Oh wow. Thank you so much! I have lots to think about now! I'll see if I can get info on the 3.4 and whether Yoni can source any of these.

Note on the above...to get all your wants, I dropped color to I (maybe one J). So, go have a look at some GIA stones and see what you like. I'm pretty color observant, but that is not the same as saying I'm color sensitive. I also love old cuts, so colors below M can be quite nice to my eyes (especially with a brown vs. yellow tint).

This is an E color with SI1. The posted video is useless, but the numbers would get it within AGS Ideal proportions even with GIA rounding.

Another strategy is to look for a SI2 that is paired with a high color. It can make a pretty pairing. I'm looking at inclusion placement and color. The one dark blob on the girdle is perfectly placed to cover if you prong between the arrows.

That's all I can come up with tonight...see what your vendor can get his hands on (or at least good images!)

Good advise in this thread.
vg/vg the vast majority of the time is not an issue.
If a diamond is being sold as super-ideal then gia EX/EX or ags ID/ID otherwise vg/vg isn't a huge issue.

Thank you all! This has been super helpful. When I'm on a computer and not my phone I'll take a super close look and will select a few to see if he can source. There was a 2.7-something up there that kind of called to me

Look at as many virtual sites as you can, & if you find one, ask Diamonds by Yoni to locate it. I know stores have buying partners but I think overall if they can find the stone, the supplier will sell it. ;))

My 1st e-stone was a G but all the stones after that have been J's. Why? Because size became more important than color. In a modern stone I won't go below a J though as I can see tint. J is my max tolerance & if there was some fluoro, bonus. I'd say, like the others have said, go look at stones in the size range you are considering to see what exactly your wife's tolerance is. And if it helps, have them set it in a setting against the metal color you want. Anything to help you decide. I've helped a lot of friends & family buy I's because that to me is a great trade off. White enough, budget friendlier than a G or an H, & if you find an SI-1, eye clean stone, again, win win. Melee stones that are F-G against an I look absolutely fine. In case you wanted to halo the stone or add side stones. If you did drop down to a J, and love it, get it. ;-)

I like using this website. They have a lot of 360 videos & if you click on live chat, they will email you more information about the stone. I've never purchased from there but I find their pricing pretty good. I know you need to buy from Diamonds by Yoni but these stones are on a virtual list.
Here's one.

Thanks! That site overwhelmed me at first - SO many diamonds and they seem so inexpensive (I gave the site a side-eye and need to go back and spend more time with it), ha!

I am definitely sensitive to color. I had a .79 H once and it bothered me. That said, I am now a bit more of a size queen (ha!) and could probably live with a bit of tint if it means BIG.

Hi! I remember you from your earlier posts. I also remember admiring your and your wife's beautiful rings.

Great to see you back! And upgrading! Very exciting!
