Hi. I would be very grateful for thoughts on these diamond specs for use as diamond stud earrings. Thanks

Apologies for the duplication above!

You're looking at large stones.
I personally would aim for a better match of crown and pavilion as well.
The difference in diameter translates to a smaller visible difference in surface area when stones are larger - I think the diameter disparity will fully disappear once they're set.

Alot of room to play! I prefer a range of proportions brighter than 'Ideal' for studs, yet no one cuts such things with perfect symmetry etc. - straight up Ideal is an easier choice in many ways.

will look

Thanks! Looking forward to seeing any possibilities you find.

I was hoping to use the search by HCA [under the 'Resources' menu up the page] to search, but the page is dead for me today. I would be looking for stones of less than 60% depth, with HCA around 1 or less.

I am guessing that you are wishing for about $ 10K / stone ?

I would prefer OEC style brilliants even if beyond J - if any existed on the shelves! [this sort o thing: www] - larger facets, broade light flash obvious on ears...

Oh yes... that is what I would love too... larger facets with big as opposed to splintery flashes! The stone you created a link to is absolutely beautiful but out of budget. For someone who is inexperienced like me it is trying to find a needle in a haystack! With my budget of $11k per stone, is it possible to get anything like that ?
Just wondering if with the covid 19 situation, there are less diamonds available at the moment?
Thanks for your help

Don't try to choose stones without images. That is almost impossible. Where are you looking at diamonds? Sometimes you can find images on another site since many vendors list the same virtual stones.

Thanks Diamondseeker2006. I am looking at the online preferred vendors of Pricescopers so all is good in that sense as most have images. Unfortunately, for an untrained eye I find it difficult to see the subtle differences between stones...or maybe I just dont have a good eye! It would be much better if I could see the diamonds in person but where I live (Ireland) there is not a big choice.
AV_ above has described the stone I am looking for but with my budget and the size I like (big as I have big lobes) I feel I am looking for a Unicorn :twisted2:

If you’re looking for OECs with large facets, contact Adam at Old a World Diamonds. He has a huge inventory and an excellent eye. He’ll definitely have something for you in budget.

Finding a matched pair of OECs is not easy. And honestly, they are generally deeper and face up smaller than excellent cut round brilliants. I love antique stones and have some, but my studs are Whiteflash ACAs which show up so well from a distance because they are bright and well cut! So I still think well cut round brilliants are best especially for larger studs like you are wanting.

I am mostly thinking about newly cut OEC with ASET standard optics - not old stones or the type of subtle play of light I expect from them [and this is also reproduced in new cuts - just to make things simple]. All in all, for studs - ie. diamonds that are to be seen from a distance!, I keep in mind the kind of revival OEC cut for two houses today - @Rhino 's & Victor Canera. I would simply ask Jonathan what they can provide for 11K [exactly this question - leaving all specs open to possibility].

-
Then again,
I agree with @diamondseeker2006 that any round brilliants cut to meet the ASET standard - & of the modern type the 'Hearts & Arrows' are the best in many respects [especially revered for a fine balance of brighteness / fire / brilliance], are bright & showy. What I am calling for is - brighter than ideal. Sometimes, such diamonds appear on the lists without any distinctive pedigree & are interesting for studs, IHMO, because they are particularly showy - from arm length & in movement, as studs serve.

WWW (esp. see two J / VS)

I would hope that you are curious enough to want to see the two J revivals, despite the fact that they are three not four carat total, since there is hardly anything cut quite this way; then, the shop does do upgrades.

-

else,

The search by HCA is working, and there are options around two carats - more closer to 1.7 cts.

I heartily endorse AV's suggestion to contact Jonathan at Distinctive Gem and see what he can do for you. But then again, I'm totally biased--he is currently setting two 1.7 ct (3.4 ctw) August Vintage European Round diamonds for me into studs!

I will say that if you're looking for large flashes of light and the best optics/cut, August Vintage European Rounds can't be beat. When I first saw the diamonds in person, I was blown away. It looks like they have a spotlight inside of them emitting light. I've never seen anything like it (and I've seen a LOT of diamonds in person).

Attaching a picture and video of my AVRs!

Thank you. I did not know about these diamonds. They are beautiful and definite contenders if I chose old cut diamonds. I have a lot more information now to work on and I feel more confident that I will make the right choice. Everyone is so generous with their expertise on this forum. I am very grateful.

J color! I can’t see any color unless I look at them from the side.
