Been reading up on this forum for a while. Some really great information.

Im looking for a loose stone as i already have the setting (verragio 5013), Budget is $5000, but its not a hard budget.

Looking for a

round stone,
I or better in color,
SI1 or better ( i hear that round diamonds are more forgiving here, but please correct me if im wrong)

Now with carat - around 1.2, however im looking more on the overall size. Looking for as close to 7mm, depending on the table and depth, i found that a good cut 1.21 or 1.25 will produce a width over 7mm.

I run everything i find in the HCA tool, so anything 2 or better with those specs i would buy.

Here are 2 i found, however a little over budget

I found some others on ebay, but they came with a EGL cert. Not so sure about that. I would consider it if its a good deal, and i would send it to GIA after.

Im not afraid to buy online, i found a really good Gem Appraiser on this site, they are not part of a jeweler so they are unbiased.

thx

EGL is never going to be a good deal. If anything, you are more likely to overpay buying one. So stick with GIA excellent cut only. So you are saying your setting needs a 7mm stone? I think you should have gotten a setting for a 1 ct stone if the budget is $5k. Just for others reading, it is not a good idea to buy a setting first.

Those two links are for the same diamond, and it is horrible. I am going to look at the PS search page and see what I can find. But as you search, use these parameters.

GIA Excellent cut

table: 54-58

depth: 60-62.3

crown angle: 34-35.0

pavilion angle: 40.6-41.0

Here is the search tool:

Click: in-house, GIA or AGS, HCA Cut Rank Excellent

The setting can Accommodate approx. 0.75 to 1.5 ct center stone.
The setting is a 3 stone setting and currently has a 7mm CZ.

I like how the proportions look with the 7mm stone, this is how i got the requirement.

$5k would be where i would like to be, however i would be able to go higher like 6k/6.5k

This is the kind of thing you are looking at in I SI1 at 7mm (1.3 cts):

The stone is nicely cut, but it has some black inclusions and may not be eyeclean. You'd have to ask that, but those inclusions would bother me.

A nice clean one at 6.9mm

Oh, that's great that you can go a little smaller if necessary. Take a look at the ones above and I will look some more.

The side diamonds are F-G color, VS2 clarity.

I do have to get it resize. It's a 6. She is a 5.5.

I got a pretty good deal on the setting, $1900. Retails for 4K. I got a local
Quote on it as well, they weren't able to beat it.

Since she will be wearing this for a long time, I let her choose a couple different settings.

However this was a while ago, and she doesn't know when or
How I will pop the question.

I have time, sometime early next year.

Those side stones look pretty small, so it may not be a big problem, but I color may show a little tint next to them. I think the 1.25 I showed you has very little tint for I color and must be a high I compared to some of the others I looked at that had more tint. So I am going to encourage you to put that stone on hold if you are interested because there are lots of lurkers here who do not post but get stone recommendations.

I would also maybe recommend not resizing that setting and just add a couple of small sizing beads since it is only a half size off. Then in the future if she needs it a little larger, the sizing beads can be polished off. That is safer than messing with an intricate setting.

Just keep in mind that holidays can be hard for a girl waiting for a proposal. Those holidays can come and go with a lot of disappointment because it is a time that people see a lot of family and friends and a great time to celebrate and show off the ring!
