Those with SP shared prong wedding sets, have you had any problems?

is it just a problem when both the e-ring and w-ring are shared prong? or is there a potential for a problem if the e-ring is plain and the w-ring is shared prong- or the other way around??

thanks for the explanation JQ...in that picture it does look like there is some curved metal buffer...tricky tricky!!

whenever I have discussed a custom eternity project with WF, they always told me about how the diamonds would be smaller etc. I don''t know if it''s because they are ACA melee that they are all so ''uniform''? but i suppose it may be easier to QC your own brand of stone in terms of sizing and specifics?

anyhow, jcrow i think that this could be a potential problem for any ring that has overlapping stones or exposed/overhang stones where they could rub against another stone or even metal. diamonds will win every time, and diamonds against diamonds is a recipe for disaster, just like diamonds against plain metal is the same.

thanks Mara. that''s what i figured. i guess i will have to put that in my request too.

It has to do with the size of the diamonds in the band. Overhang means that a diamond is larger or hangs over the edge of the band. When this happens it will rub whatever is next to it.

Mara, you're welcome. I just read your summation for jcrow - it's a good one, especially making note of the fact that a band could be a problem if the diamonds rub against the mounting of the center stone of the ring it accompanies.

Our sourcing situation does allow us to match with ease, since they are all brillianteered in the same place, but having a successful formula in the workshop for spread versus band width is just as crucial.

Yes, this is good to know. I just assumed that there would be no way for a shared prong wedding set to be safe. I wonder why SP doesn''t fiddle around with the diamond diameter to mounting ratio rather than redesigning their rings? It will be interesting to see what they come up with.

Well, I just jinxed myself. I said I few days ago I didn''t have any problems with my shared prong mounting, but as I said on Ally''s thread I just noticed today that one of my stones is lower than the other ones, and it was not like this when I bought it! From the side it looks like the stone is missing! I''ve only had this setting a few weeks and I really baby it. I hardly wear it to be honest. This really bites.

So sorry to hear that Pebbles. I believe you have a setting from Signed Pieces? I''m sure they''ll fix it for you right away. But it''s crappy to have to part with it after such a short period of time...well, after any period of time. Or, if you have a local jeweler you trust I''m sure they can do it quickly and efficiently. I doubt it''s very hard to do.

Actually, my eternity band is from Signed Pieces, but the new semi-mount is from a local B&M store. The semi-mount is from Gottlieb & Sons. I''m going to try to get to the jeweler tomorrow, but I probably realistically won''t get there until Friday, since it is on my way to work.

I''ve had no issues with my eternity band yet, except that it''s not very comfortable or practical for me.

Rats, Pebbles, this just bites. I am so sorry to hear of your troubles. It''s just such a short time later too. I hope you get this fixed quickly and to your complete and total satisfaction.

I debated a long time about getting a shared prong mounting because of the issues people had and finally got it because I wanted to wear it as a stand alone ring anyway. I noticed late last night that another diamond on the opposite side of the setting is also lower than the others. If this is going to be an ongoing concern, I want my $$ back. I don''t want to have to worry every time I put my ring on.

As I have reading this thread, all I can think is "oh Sh-t", I just ordered 2 shared prong Raphael setting plat. eternity bands to flank both sides of my Tiffany 16 stone band. I did inquire about the bands rubbing when I discussed the order with SP. They informed me that the design of the Raphael setting would prevent the rubbing. Has anyone lost stones in one of SP''s Rahael settings I wonder? I am very concerned, but I have been wanting these eternity bands for almost a year. They are for our 29th anny and SP is creating the bands with 29 diamonds.

I will begin wearing them Jan. 7th. So I will certainly post pics.

I have the eternity band Raphael from SP. I got it 4 months ago and have not had any problems. My engagement ring is a 2 carat solitare-tiffany setting from Blue Nile. I do notice a slight rubbing on the prong but it''s not that bad and the Raphael sits lower than normal eternity bands.

Of course, wearing an eternity band is not as comfortable as a normal channel set or platinum band but you have to sacrifce something for beauty.
