I am also hoping for a proposal in 2009... hopefully sooner than later... and want to see if any would like to share your ideas. I have been planning my wedding day since i was about 12 (haha) but even now my ideas are still changing! i thought i liked the contrasting blue and yellow but im not so sure now! i am planning on a summer ''10 wedding so summer colors definitely! It''s really hard to talk to people right now since I do not have a ring yet and everyone thinks i''m crazy!! soooo i thought you ladies might understand, want to help out, or share your ideas. I know theres a whole forum for this kinda thing but i was wanting to talk to just ''09 LIW. so anyone who wants to share i would absolutely love to hear your ideas, share some of mine, and just talk about WEDDING STUFF!!
36.gif

I''ll go first:

I love blue and yellow together but i also like peachy tones, soft yellows, white, green, and brown colors together (thats my newest idea).

both our families are huge and we have lots of family friends so we have no choice... big wedding it is! which i wouldn''t have any other way!

i love the country kind of feel with lots of wood, wicker, tin cans... boots and pearls kinda of feel. by no means redneck think the movie Hope Floats ha

i LOVE LOVE LOVE dasies and calla lillies!

now that i really have to think about it, i am all out of ideas.... ill attempt to attach photos of what i like. its my first time!!!! EEEEE

I hope i have attached a picture of the wood idea i''m talkin about.... hope it works... ill be attempting to attach more!

SO COOOOOOLLL!!!.jpg

This is just an idea i had from the thread about those awaiting a 2009 proposal. I hope i said everything correctly and its not confusing to anyone cause i am dying to talk about things but talking to my family about this so soon is not something i am willing to bring up! so hopefully the "planners" or just excited LIW on PS will want to talk!!

hopefully...

that box design is super cute!
I too want to plan the whole wedding right now, but i am trying to hold back as much as possible.

however, i definitely think its okay to mark an idea if you see one!!

:)

I''m so torn! In a way, I feel like I can''t REALLY plan til he pops the question. Not because I am opposed to planning pre-engagement but because I can''t decide whether to do a traditional wedding or destination wedding.

I don''t want a very long engagement so the difference of three months, proposal-wise, might actually affect much of our planning.

I''m inclined to say: DW at an all-inclusive resort, probably Mexico. I want to do the city hall/civil ceremony before we leave since it appears to be a little complicated to have a legal wedding in Mexico (it''s certainly do-able but who wants another layer of complications?). Ceremony on the beach, reception poolside in the early evening.

If we were to stay here... I''m not sure. We would prefer an outdoor ceremony but that would probably push us back to late spring 2010 - too late, IMO. I saw a lovely plum/pink (sounds kind of ugly, but it was gorgeous) wedding theme yesterday - I''d probably go with something like that. I should look for pics.

Eh I'm all over the place. I know where we're having the ceremony/reception - outdoor, woodsy, simple - and the reception is in a historic cottage.

I've got some color ideas as far as the flowers go I know I want deep hues of purples or magentas with an accent of cream and then lush greenery or greens and maybe a deep turquoise since it'll be the beginning of july and I LOVE how truly green everything feels once summer hits. I figured I'd accent that with a brown - like have brown ribbon hold the bouquets together or the backing on the table settings and text on menus be brown.

I'm thinking something flowy for my dress. I've been going back and forth for a while now as far as what I wanted - priscilla of boston, then this medieval taylor swift love story inspired idea- now an Amy Michaelson dress that a PSer had posted a while ago. I had always wanted a flowy floor length bridesmaids dress - something comfy where they could wear cute flat sandals instead of heals- but I'm afriad if my dress is flowy and their dresses are flowy it'll look too much like a mismatch than a coordination. I want it to be somewhat of a relaxed elegant dress code, like sun dresses and suits kind of deal, so the flat sandals and casual hair dos are going to fit in well. My SO would die to wear linen pants at our wedding, haha, but since we're not getting married on a beach in Cabo I dont think the linen will work.

I'm afraid I'm guilty of preplanning though. We've already booked the venue which comes with a caterer and floral designer, I've found the photographer and I'm putting down a deposit this week and I've blocked off my hair appointments at the salon on the grounds of the venue. This is all a result of the venue booking up fast, too fast to wait for an engagement this summer. My SO is fine with the planning though I must admit it feels backwards sometimes.

I''ve "planned" most of my wedding, okay it''s all up in my head and my ideas folder on my computer, but don''t have a ring...nor do I think that the boy has even looked at them
face11.gif
and I''m hoping that it''ll happen sooner than later in the year, because I was hoping for a 2009 proposal and wedding... we want a winter wedding... our favorite time of the year!!!

I like pink/brown for my colors or pink/green... I think pink/brown for winter is better than the green. The only problem is that the flowers i wanted don''t bloom in the winter
8.gif
I wanted Dalihas, so I''ll have to find something different.

But I''m keeping my fingers pretty with manicures and trying not to nag to much about when he''s going to propose... I think it makes him nervous.

I don''t have toooo much planned. Well, except for colors, the date, the location, the menu.... Haha.

I too would love a summer (early July) wedding (tenantively set on 7/3/10). And like SailorSweet, I also love how green everything gets in the summer. So I''m thinking a lemon/lime color pallete. I love centerpieces that are filled with lemons or limes.

The building where SO and I met (and worked together) is building an event center on the top floor. So I''ve already looked into booking the reception there.

My biggest issue is telling my uber catholic side of the family that they really shouldn''t count on a church wedding. My mother seems to think it will send my grandmother to her grave.

Whenever mother starts in on me about a church wedding, I threaten to elope and she clams up. Oh mothers.

Other than that, I don''t have a whole lot planned. It''s nice to read about these and share what I''m thinking too. If I told anyone IRL how much I''ve planned (w/o even being engaged), they''d surely scoff at me.

My situ is somewhat similar. I'm thinking small, intimate DW in Italy, in a place where I spent a lot of time as a child. With SO and I, any location will be a DW for much of family/friends since I'm from Europe, he's from the West Coast, and we live on the East Coast with no family but many of our good friends. I just found out that in Italy a civil wedding has to be conducted in city hall by the mayor, so right now I'm also thinking of getting legally married in the States first and then having a spiritual, symbolic garden ceremony for the actual wedding day. I'm thinking either June or Sept/Oct 2010, so to me it also matters when we get engaged. Originally I wanted a two year engagement, just to have time to enjoy it without having to plan, but since SO is taking his good old time, well, it is what it is, I'm not waiting till 2011 to get married and I do not want a winter wedding.

ETA: I have no idea about colors yet. I like the idea of an all-white or white/green wedding. I also like fuchsia or red. But I'm all over the place. I know that I want short bridesmaid dresses and that they won't be strapless (nor will my wedding dress).

Iowa Lizzy thats the date SO and I have reserved!!! How coincidental! Haha. Its the 4th anniversary of the day we met, plus it couldnt be more ideal as a Saturday and a holiday weekend, so all the relatives dont seem unreasonably to their employers if they take off a little early on Fri for the rehearsal dinner.

ALSO SO''s Italian side of the family as well my Italian side of the family are going to be pretty bummed when they hear we''re not having a church ceremony. I''m looking into a Catholic officiant, but SO was never baptized nor has he received any sacraments so in order for us to have a church ceremony at the church I grew up in he''d have to go through a years long program to and come to church every Sunday. Seeing as he''s in the Navy and lives in VA when hes home thats just not possible. Even if it were, I dont feel that going through all of that and having our wedding in a church is really true to our relationship or the people we are as adults. My family knows I no longer attend church based on beliefs I''ve developed after college, and his family knows his father chose not to raise SO and his siblings with religious affiliation so it shouldnt be a surprise in that sense. Sorry for the babble

I know you said you weren't really interested in a church wedding, but just FYI: if you are a baptized Catholic, your SO does not have to be baptized or Catholic at all for you to have a wedding in the Catholic Church. You have to take the marriage prep classes, but they are not too bad, and even in my very conservative diocese, they are very understanding of mixed-religion couples, as long as children will be baptized Catholic. You can also do the prep online.

Just wanted to let you know you have the option if you reconsider at a later date =).

ETA: I just realized that you didn't really say you were raised Catholic! Sorry if the info is superfluous.

Thanks Kittybean. I must be confusing what I thought was required. The church I grew up at had an RCIA program which I thought was mandatory if you wanted to become a member of the church. Maybe that was the case and I'm also dragging that into getting married in the church when the program was not a requirement to do so. I have on particular couple in mind that was part of the program at my church, I didnt know them personally but I knew of them and granted I was in high school the last time I was at my church so I wasnt socializing with them on that level. It might have been possible that they were both converting to Catholicism, whereas I thought she was Catholic and he was going through the program as a requirement for them to be married at the church. Now that I think of it, he couldve just been converting because he wanted to regardless of their marriage and such. Anyway, thanks for pointing it out. I was raised Catholic and went to Catholic school up until I went to college. I honestly dont feel as if what I now believe would make it appropriate for me to be married in the church, and I know my SO would feel uncomfortable with a church ceremony seeing as that would be the first time he's ever gone to mass. It would almost be for show - for my relatives - and not truly something I felt in my heart. Thats what leads me to, at the most, have a Catholic affiliated officiant, but not a mass ceremony.

Jcarley:

Thanks!! I came across that and thought that would be too cool to have in the entrance to the dance hall i''m hoping to have!!

Absolut_Blonde,

My cousin had a DW in Jamaica this summer and it was absolutely wonderful! Carefree, beautiful, relaxed, and totally them! If you think you would like a DW, definitely look into them!! they are a refreshing change to the traditional route! Although i''m a more traditional girl, the destination wedding would be something i would definitely want to do to renew vows or something! Since my SO and I are Catholic we will be getting married in the church I grew up going to, so that solves the place.

what kind of venue would you have and what colors would you put with it? Just curious

Sailor:

Your color ideas sound beautiful! and I wouldnt feel guilty about pre-planning! especially if the place you want to have goes quickly! i wish i h ad enough guts to start planning now instead of sneaking around and just showing my SO my ideas and him going "oh cool..." ha

Ilovespinel:

Like you I have kept everything in my head and on folders on the computer too!! it''s funny how we do this before we know a ring is coming! haha I LOVE LOVE LOVE dalihas too!! Too bad they arent a winter flower! that would be beautiful with your color scheme!!! If i was going to get married in the winter i would definitely love something similar to that! sounds beautiful!

Iowa:

Your date is close to the date i would love to have!! i was hoping for 7/12/10! i totally agree that talking to people about wedding planning before a ring is surely gonna get you some crazy looks!! which is why i wanted to start this thread! i just hope we can keep talkin!!

mscushion:

SOOO jealous that you could go to Italy to get married! soo romantic!! and i just recently became a fan of weddings that use a lot of white! so i absolutely love the white and green idea! that would be beautiful! i changed my original colors that i liked to white, cream, peaches, light yellows, greens, and browns. i like the natural kind of look. real soft and elegant! but i think i am going to put a little small town country feel twist to it. its hard to explain.

it seems that everytime i look at wedding dresses they are all strapless!!! i''m pretty much open to everything as of now, but i guess time will tell. do you feel that way too? is that why you dont want strapless?

TO all:

are yall going to have a large wedding or small wedding?

I think that any combo of the colors you mentioned sounds beautiful!

Well, the reason I don't want to go strapless is that I don't think it suits my (upper) body type the best. Right now, I'm thinking (daydreaming) about this kind of dress (just a loose example): http://tinyurl.com/ayer5n. And for my bridesmaids, well, there I just prefer BM dresses with straps, I guess. But yes, strapless is *everywhere* these days -- and for good reason, it looks beautiful on many!

HappyGoLucky - You keep talkin'' and I''ll keep listenin''

It never ceases to amaze me how wonderfully supportive all you LIWs are!

I''m really glad that I''m not the only person who does this...I can''t talk about it with my bf bc I think he thinks i''m nuts-o already about it all! Not engaged no idea when that might happen (hopefully this year)...
anyhow, I have picked out where I want my wedding, my wedding band (I have two in mind depending what type of engagement ring I receive), the groom''s cake, my wedding dress, and I REALLY want a Sunday Brunch wedding (just not sure about getting up that early for hair and "getting ready"). I''d like either calla lilies (my favorite) or hydrangeas....I haven''t picked out colors or anything else yet...but I think I have a decent start!

Lovebug, for what it''s worth, I just wanted to jump in and say that I love the idea of a Sunday brunch wedding. Never been to one, but I think it would be just lovely.

Musey:

Thanks!! i really like that too!! i was just searching on google something about country wedding styles and that came up and i fell in love!!! glad to know others like it!!

BTW i absolutely love your wedding set!!
30.gif
i drooled over it forever in SMTR!! love those step cuts!! i''m hoping for an EC in the not so distant future!!

mscushion:

I''m glad you like my colors! i just hope i can find some more pictures for inspiration! seems like i cannot find that combo anywhere! especially the peach, when i search it all that comes up is like 80''s style peach colors... i gotta say those are entertaining at least!

that dress you gave me as an example is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!! i am in LOVE with lace! i want a style similar to that except without the sleeves... i have really broad shoulders, its not very flattering on me! strapless is gorgeous but since i am not well endowed in that area... or well, not endowed at all... i dont think strapless is the best cut for me. but only time will tell!!!

Iowa:

I know! i love how supportive everyone is! i am so glad i came across this website!!

lovebug:

My BF just laughs now! hes used to it! haha he actually shows interest in it and i see him lookin every now and then!
I thought it was just me who began obsessively looking and planning things in my head before a ring is even on my finger but i feel tons better now knowing its pretty normal! haha The Sunday Brunch wedding sounds very relaxed! i think it would be really nice! and i LOVE calla lillies and hydrangeas, my mom had those in her bouquet! it was beautiful!

If anyone finds any pictures of the colors i like would yall mind telling me where you found them, i cannot seem to find much at all!!! Thanks in advance!!

happygolucky -- He thinks its all a little overkill now...I talk about it a lot. I''ve def. tried to cut back though...again so he doesn''t think i''m crazy! But no you''re DEF not the only one! Brunch is my favorite meal...not sure my SO shares the same sentiment but I think it could be nice. A omelet bar, lots of fresh fruit, quiche, maybe eggs benedict, waffles with whatever topping you like, little finger sandwiches....who can''t love that!! Since I don''t really want much alcohol (i''d really be ok with none but SO is NOT ok with that) at my wedding I think I can get away with it here too...just mimosas and MAYBE bloddy mary''s! I just think it sounds so cute and pretty...but we''ll see if thats actually what I get! haha..and i LOVE those boxes with your names on them!

I love blue and yellow together but i also like peachy tones, soft yellows, white, green, and brown colors together (thats my newest idea).

HGL - I''ve been doing lots of color research lately because my "saturated colors" idea doesnt appear to be too popular for a July wedding - but I wanted to keep an eye out for your color schemes. When you said you also liked peach/yellow/white/green/brown did you mean all together? Or just in general. Let me know I''ve had slight insomnia lately as well so I''m sure I''ll come back with some images for ya.

BTW - do any of you pre-plannin'' LIW notice that theknot''s website gets really overloaded at random times and says "server busy" instead of loading a page? I thought it cute when it happened the other day on my lunch break (all those brides and LIW planning!) but it happened again last night around 12:45am/1am which didnt seem like ideal wedding planning time to me.

OKay, I will go...

For colors, I am 90% sure I will do a dark turquiose as the primary color, with bright pink and orange accents (i.e. flowers.) I know this sounds weird, but I swear, it''s beautiful.

I really want a spring or summer wedding but would extend to early fall if we can''t get our venues. Ideal date that I''m shooting for is June 26, 2010. I want some outdoor pics and would love any sort of patio or veranda attached to our reception venue - I think having an outdoor patio with an extra bar would be awesome.

Guest list...roughly 150-175 people. Bridal party - five on each side + ring bearer + flower girl.

Honeymoon...all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana/Playa del carmen area.

Reception venue...stuck between several options...ballroom, country club, or huge beautiful barn that was made for weddings and events. Ceremony will be in a methodist church (we are Christian) that is made primarily of wood and glass...it''s stunning.

Can''t wait! Ah! I just want to be engaged so I can actually start booking things.

Woops, here is the file I meant to attach!

Hey Happy! I''m your list neighbor, holding out the top 40 with ya!

I, too, hope to be engaged in 2009 (and sooner than later). I''m waiting on my BF to get back from Europe, and then he said "be on your toes & bring your tissues wherever you go".

For the longest time, I thought that we would wait until I was done with residency, etc. to plan a wedding, which saddened me (b/c it wouldn''t be until 2012, maybe). At almost 23, I feel that I''m "too young" but recently, we''ve talked about it more, and I think I would be very comfortable getting married close to 24, and my 2010 graduation in May, which makes me very happy. I talked to BF about it, and he''s great with the idea too, so I think we might actually only have a 1 year engagment instead of the 3+ year I had originally thought!

Right now, I''m getting excited looking at venues. I even made a mock guest list... ha ha. I feel your excitement!

Hopefully, we''ll be off the list soon, girl!

Amanda thats so exciting! From 3 year to 1 year! Thats great that you SO agreed on it, I remember reading some of your past posts where you''d mentioned waiting until the end of your residency and you seem so much happier with the idea of a 2010 wedding. Yay!

Sailor,

Yes, i do like the peach, light yellow, white, greens, and brown all together. i like the earth tones with peachy colors to brighten it up. my favorite color is green so i really want to incorporate green, which is why i changed from blue and yellow to this new color scheme. plus i went to a yellow blue wedding recently and it wasnt as appealing to me as i originally though sooooo that sealed the deal. i want green bridesmaid dresses, either a dark green or a pastel green. not too sure on that. plus i absolutely love lace for my wedding dress and i figured that these colors seem a little more elegant (at least how im picturing it) and the lace will go beautifully with it. and i''ve always wanted to wear my grandma''s pearls with my wedding dress so all that would be perfect together in my mind. Thank you so much for lookin out for me! you''re so sweet!! some pictures would be really amazing!!

why doesnt your color scheme seem to be workin? hard to find flowers of those colors for july?? what other colors would you have in mind?

i have definitely noticed theknot being kinda slow at times! maybe so many ladies are wanting to search late at night like we do!! (i do most my searching at night too!!)

Laughwithme,

your color scheme sounds and looks beautiful!!! i love turquoise and the contrast with the pink and orange will be amazing!! your plans sound very relaxd and fun too!! our dates are pretty close too! i am hoping for June 12, 2010!!

amanda:

I have been so excited seeing my name slowly move up the list! i''m kinda nervous that they might take me off the list though! i''m pretty confused about #of posts and how long youve been there determining how long you will have to stay on the list! Man i wish i had to be on my toes all the time!! my BF is pretty random so who knows when hes gonna propose! i bet you were so excited when your engagement went from 3 years to 1!! sooo exciting!! doesnt it make you giddy?!?!!? i''m thinking it will be in april since it includes my birthday, getting my college ring, and our 3 year anniversary all in 1!!! so thats a big month! but it seems to predictable! so i dont know! yes i definitely hope we will be off the list soon!!! good luck to you!!!

when i get on my other computer ill show you some pictures of what i''m talking about with my color scheme and such. i dont have much but its a start! if anyone has pictures of your own ideas for your wedding i''d like to see them as well! i love seeing what others like, and hopefully we can inspire ideas for others!

I dont know, I just dont see a lot of summer weddings pictures on the wedding websites with deep wine, greens, and browns - or a plum, orange, deep turquoise kind of theme. Its a lot of light palettes which totally make sense because most people think light and airy for summer, I mean think of all the color schemes in clothing lines when then turn over their summer collections. So thats what I mean by I cant find a lot I like. I'm also very picky with colors. I'm getting my BA in interior design (one of these days) and its really driving me crazy with how much I annoy myself when trying to pick out the colors, dresses, invites!

Anyway - I'll keep a look out for your scheme happy. I'll probably be doing some wedding research tomorrow since I have the day off.

Is anyone else looking for anything specific that I can keep my eye out for?

Finally found a FEW pictures of colors and BM dresses and stuff. I LOOOOVE this color of BM dresses. I got a few more pics as well so here they go! hope they work!

I just wish I could see the rest of the BM dresses!! I like the idea of having that color with a v-neck but some bridesmaids I have in mind are very well endowed on top so im not sure that will work! anyway enough rambling.... here come the pics!

rwrhgs.jpg

This is the best picture I could find of the look I am going for. I would tweak it a little to put more white and some darker greens but I love the style of this! Very elegant IMO.

What do yall think? Be very honest, it would be cool to see an opposing opinion, if there are any, to see what you would change! so bring it on, no feelings will be hurt!

LOVE THIS!!!!!.jpg

While i''m on a picture craze... does anyone like the look of Jessica Simpson''s wedding dress when she married Nick Lachey? I fell in love with the plain white with simple lace. I love that look! I think just simple pretty lace would go just perfect with my theme. especially since I want to wear my grandma''s pearls. I think it will all meld really well together. If anyone has pics of her dress or a dress similar, or really any A-line dress with lace would you mind posting? i''m not too picky about the top yet. I am open to that. I''m not too crazy about the mermaid look for myself. My BF''s sister in law had a mermaid style strapless dress that was absolutely stunning on her but i plan to be dancing quite a bit and they seem to be very restricting in the leg movement area, plus I like the poofy but not so cinderella poofy, if that makes sense....

If theres anything I can do to help any of you ladies I would be glad to help you out!! Just give me a hollar! I tend to get my second wind around 1AM and thats when I am OCD about wedding stuff! So just let me know if I can do anything!

Found a style I LOOOOOVVVEEE!!!! It''s from Casablanca. It is more beaded than I hoped for but the picture shows the white with gold and I would rather get white and white. its # 1918 from the fall 2008 collection. I love the scalloped neckline and just the overall look of the dress!! Let me know what you think!
