HI:

Recent thread by Mintve got me wondering.............for a RHR

http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/A-Cut-Above-H-A-cut-diamond-395238.htm given the stone; which setting would you choose? This:

I love both looks but since it is a RHR, I choose bezel.......

I choose prong; not as much metal. I think there was a thread recently. Off to look so it helps you out. ETA: I see you found the thread. hehee

HI:

Thanks for the votes, so far!! Keep them coming!

I wish I had another bezel set ring to get a feel for the "look". Everything I own is prong set, so naturally I gravitate toward that.

I wonder too, if a bezel might be more "apropos" given the J color....either that or go to a D color stone (I swore to myself the next diamond I bought would be a D)

cheers--Sharon

I vote bezel, but I am biased

HI:

You''ve had both, and prefer the bezel--so that''s saying sumpin!

cheers--Sharon

HI:

If you were to choose the bezel setting--would you millgrain just the bezel or the entire setting (halo, shank....)?

cheers--Sharon

after seeing loads of photos, i say bezel w/ milgrain!

1st choice would be prong set, 2nd choice milgrained bezel. But I really like the milgrain bezel with a colored stone with diamond halo, so I''d probably save that look for a colored stone.

Both are beautiful. For some reason, I lean toward the bezel.

They are both beautiful settings but I think I''d pick the second one - don''t have any reason - I just like it a little better. The diamond is gorgeous!

I can''t choose. It is like splitting hairs... THey are both so gorgeous!

another vote for bezel!

Bezel all the way

HI:

Thanks for all the votes! I am now more undecided than ever! I did however find a ring in my jewel box with bezels and like the look--albeit the stones are quite small; but at least I got an idea.

As for the millgrain: none, just bezel, bezel and halo, or the whole ring?

cheers--Sharon

excuse my naivete...what is RHR?

right hand ring

I like the bezel more. It is easier to distinguish the center stone with the bezel and the setting looks more fluid. Lovely project by the way!!!

On this particular ring, I''d like it with none. I really like the smooooooooooothness of it.

I really love the bezel and how sleek the whole ring looks when it''s set that way.

HI:

Thanks girlies for the tips/help!

I had about an hour today to cover a few places and see which style I might prefer--and hands down it was the bezel set! Despite the fact I only saw two bezel set styles amongst the very popular and abundant prong set style, I liked the lower profile of the former. And streamlined--as Ellen suggested. Too I saw a variety of center stone sizes ranging from .23-1.10 and the size I am thinking of for this ring, will look very well I believe!

Interesting note about branded rings/settings--I don''t own any and I got a bit of a sticker shock. The Simon G triple band micropave and halo (one row of pink diamonds), with a 1.09 E S12, was over 14K. Tacori, for a marquise, 1.32 I s12, around 12K. Another brand--sorry memory fails (name starts with an "A") was a stunner, the setting alone for a small micropave halo, was $6500.

Finally, I am checking out my old haunt tomorrow to see what perspective I might glean from there.

cheers--Sharon

We will assume you''ll keep us posted.

I''m really liking the bezel

I typically prefer the prong-set version, but for a RHR, I''d think I''d prefer the bezel set due to low profile and less ''engagement-y'' looking to me.

Seems you thought the same.

As to milligrain or not.....on a .55 stone, I''d be inclined to milligrain the bezel around the center stone but not anything else. In doing this, you''d de-emphasize the size of the center stone relative to the melee.....making the whole piece look visually bigger. I''d not milligrain the outer edge of the ring; I''d leave that smooth to draw a bolder ring around the total piece to emphasize the size.

I vote bezel with no milgrain, even though it sounds like you''ve already made up your mind! It''s going to be GORGEOUS!

hlmr - thank you! You know, these acronyms are always so obvious once you know what they mean!

One vote for the bezel!

HI:

Thanks for your input. I had every intention of getting out to check out a favorite shop yesterday--to get a sense of millgraining vs. plain; but did not. Unfortunately I have little personal experience with this design element to say one way or the other I believe to would really add value here; or perhaps, rather, what I should say is that when I saw the bezel set rings on Friday I did NOT overwhelming sense that the rings needed something else, or that it was "missing" millgraining. Suffice it to say, I think my preference lies with the plain bezel set.

Again, girls thanks for the votes!

P.S. did any of you order this big fulffy snow??????????????????
