Dolphin -- did you read my post i.e. i think your ring is SO cool. Ideally, i want the side to be as open as possible, but I have trouble explaining what that means. the guy had a word for it today, but i forgot. You give me hope, b/c i think what i want would be even cheaper than yours, which was custom and has that diamond on the side. what is your stone? how big, etc? does it do the job, as in stand on its own? what do laymen (not pricescope obsessos!) think when they see it? Truly, i think it''s gorgeous. any recommendations on who i should work with on the stone. someone recommended a guy at the top of this thread. did you use him or know of him?

Thank you so much. I''m not sure of a specific term for it being open, but I''m positive someone on here will know. My stone is a .72ct asscher. When I got it I couldn''t make up my mind on how to set it. I wanted the stone to stand out, but also wanted a halo because I have big fingers and the stone alone would have looked really small. The best way my jeweler and I came up with to help the asscher stand out was to do a cushion halo shape and a bezel around the asscher. Another way we accomplished this was by sandblasting the bands, and the diamonds pop. I worked with a local jeweler who has done a ton of custom pieces for me, but anyone recommended on PS is good. Most people around here have never seen an asscher cut diamond before, so I get a ton of compliments and its fun to tell them to look down into it. Even though its small for an asscher I have had people tell me that it goes on forever.

Have you checkd out www.exceldiamonds.com ??

They have one setting that is made for an ascher cut. I think it is great that you actually seen the diamonds in person, so now you know what it is you want... congrats on that!

I don''t know wat your talking about with the pavillion (or whatever you mean), so I can''t help you there.

This setting I found at excel:

I will keep looking for you, but my boyfriend is going to snap soon if I don''t find my ring by monday!

Check this one out, though.

Do you guys notice how in the first picture you can see the stone underneath setting, and in the second picture you cannot?? You see that? THAT is (i think) what i like. Is that only possible with a massive stone that i can't afford?? Number 2 also has diamonds on the "sides" of the halo and down the "corner supports". I don't want that. In fact, I'd prefer none in the ring part either. Again, you all are SO helpful. Thank you!

Oooh, I really like the setting in the 2nd link you posted, Dan! Is it in your price range? It looks lovely to me, and I''m not even into halos that much.

just a suggestion...but if you like to see the stone from the side have you thought about doing a tension set? I LOVE this one

dreamer --- but the difference b/t a way bigger stone isn''t as important to me as is the look, the style, of the ring as a whole. there''s an ags cert ex/ex .87 si1, F, on union diamond, for 2300. based on what i saw today that seems like it would be big enough to stand out on its own. If i can get a nice halo setting for 1-1200 +/- and a stone like that, then i think i will.
Sounds like you have a really good idea what you want! Great! See how far you''ve come in just a couple of days? Keep going at this rate and you''ll have the whole kit and kaboodle by the end of the week!

Gwen - why do tension settings scare you? Are they prone to loosing the stone, or what? The reason I ask is this: I never wear a ring, so I am afraid the one I choose will have a rough life for the first little while, until I get used to having it on. Should I even be considering a tension setting?

Also, Danny - update please. Did ou make any progress this weekend?

the only tension ring I would ever consider is one made of titanium.

Gold and plat is too soft and not springy enough nor tough enough.
