My jeweler was able to locate a diamond based on the criteria that I provided him and I am extremely confident that this is the one. I have yet to see it in person and there is a slight chance that it might not be available as someone already "bid" on the diamond but my jeweler is trying to get the stone his supplier so I can purchase it.

If it does become available I wanted to get everyones feedback on what they think. I dont have the crown or pavilion angles since the jeweler does not have the cert in his possession - the diamond is new and it would need to get released from the supplier.

Here are the specs:

1.29ct, G, SI2, AGS 000, 56 Table, 61.4 Depth.
List Price $6037
My Price (if the stone is available) $5150

Thanks!!!

man, i hope this is available I havent been this excited in awhile! =)

Hello!

Fingers crossed that this stone turns out to be awesome, and that it''s available!

If you can get the AGS certificate number, you can look the cert up online & get the angles that way. :)

I have an AGS0 Ideal cut, and it is beautiful!

My main concern on your stone is that it will be eyeclean to your standards... but you''ll just have to wait and see!

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Looks very promising, fingers crossed it is eyeclean according to your personal comfort level. I await the rest of the diamond details....

thanks all! i''m crossing my fingers too!

Here is more information regarding the diamond:

Flourescence: None
Culet: None
Dimensions: 6.99x7.04x4.31
Girdle: thin - medium

provided that this is an eye clean diamond - is this considered a really good deal or just average? ive been looking for awhile and to me it jumps out as a really good deal but im not an expert. how much does a comparable stone like this go for?

thanks!!!

hope everything works out and its eyeclean!

the price seams reasonable compared to other online vendors.

but it will come down to how you like it in person

keep us updated!

So far so good, but I can''t say for sure without the crow/pavillion angles. When you see it in person be sure to really scrutinize it for eye-cleanliness.

You can use the search tool above to check out the prices of similar, typically brick and mortar establishments have higher prices than those offered by online vendors. This diamond certainly sounds promising from the info given, and it is an AGS0, but get the angles as I mentioned before if you can.

Good luck. If it''s of any comfort, I just purchased a G SI2 diamond (not quite as large as yours, so I can''t really compare on the price issue) and we are thrilled with it. I was able to speak at length with the G.G. who had the stone in front of her and she was able to confirm that it was eye-clean. I highly recommend that you try to do the same and speak with someone who has actually seen the diamond; there is only so much that a cert can tell you with regard to clarity.

i did a quick search and it looks like im saving about a $1,000 or so with this stone.. this is a B&M store but apparently their prices are very competitive.

on the search tool above i noticed 2 prices - 1 said $/crt and the other said the actual price with a link. what does the $1/crt one mean?

That''s how much they are charging per carat. So for example $4000 per carat, then a 1.5ct stone should be about $6000.

UPDATE: I''m still basically waiting. The supplier has sent the diamond off to another retailer that has requested it. hopefully no one buys it. my jeweler has contacted the supplier and stressed how interested we are in the diamond and the supplier has given the other retailer until thursday to make a decision... i''m hoping no sale occurs and that i get an opportunity to take a look at this myself.

if this diamond is available and it is indeed eye clean do you all consider this a really good deal or just average?

That is a good price if the stone is really eye clean. Be sure to ask them to look at it from the side as well as from the top.

guys,

something just caught my attention... the jeweler told me this is an AGS000 but doesnt that mean that the cut, clarity, and color grade are all rated 0''s - i.e. triple 0''s...?

if this is true then he was wrong when he gave me this info in the email:

1.29ct, G, SI2, AGS 000, 56 Table, 61.4 Depth.
List Price $6037
My Price (if the stone is available) $5150

this diamond may be AGS certified but its not AGS000...

Am i right? how come no one else caught that???

Thanks!!

by the way, on another forum i was able to have someone possibly find the certification from AGS... im confident this is it as it would be a million to one chance its not as everything matches.

its a bit difficult to make out but i think the crown is 34 and pavillion is 41.4.

So here are the full specs again with all the necessary info..

1.29ct, G, SI2, AGS 000, 56 Table, 61.4 Depth.
Flourescence: None
Culet: None
Dimensions: 6.99x7.04x4.31
Girdle: thin - medium

with all this info please let me know what you all think. thanks

i have the cert but i dont know how to post it... its saved on my computer locally.....

I searched up above and and found your diamond- you can also see other people have it in their virtual inventory. Like here: http://www.engagementringsdirect.com/diamonds/14646573

And I was able to find the AGS cert by searching too, and the pavilion angle is 41.1, crown is 34.2. However, the stone is AGS1 for cut. Here's the info:

AGS#: 9510901
Report Type: Diamond Quality™ Document
Shape and Style: Round Brilliant
Measurements: 6.99 - 7.04 x 4.31 mm
Cut Grade: AGS Excellent 1
Color Grade: AGS 1.5 (G)
Clarity Grade: AGS 6 (SI2)
Carat Weight 1.293
Fluorescence: Negligible
Comments:

Additional clouds and surface graining are not shown.

Table: 56.4%
Crown Angle: 34.2
Crown Height: 14.7%
Girdle: Faceted, 1.3% to 3.6%
Pavilion Angle: 41.1
Pavilion Depth: 43.4%
Star Length: 48%
Lower Girdle Length: 76%
Total Depth: 61.4%
Culet: Pointed

Probably a fairly nice diamond! But not "ideal" by some standards around here.

yeah thats the same info i got from the certificate that i have. so an AGS diamond can have a cut grade of excellent (AGS1) yet still be a AGS000?

Also, for the flourescence - on my jewelers since it says none but on the certificate it says negligible... obviously these are 2 different things.. is this a big deal if the flourescence is negligible?

now that we have the info above what do you all think? i thought this was something too good to pass up for the price of $5,000 but now im getting the feeling like the PSers just thinks its mehhhh

Copied from the AGS website.

The AGS 0-10 Grading System - The AGS 0-10 grading scale is easy to understand. The highest possible grade is 0; 10 is the lowest. For example, a diamond with a color grade of 3 has less color than a diamond with a color grade of 5. When writing the grades of a diamond, cut is first, then color, then clarity, and then carat weight. For example, a diamond that is the finest cut, colorless, free of inclusions and blemishes, and one carat in weight would be written as: 0/0/0 — 1.000 carat. In the AGS Diamond Grading Standards, this would be known as a Triple Zero™.

None and negligible mean the same thing with fluorescence - no worries. I think that if you could get an Idealscope image on this diamond, that would be helpful, as the pavillion angle is a tad steeper, it may be fine, but an IS would be useful.

AGS000 ....

What does that mean?

someone posted that an AGS000 means:
Ideal Polish 0
Ideal Symmetry 0
Ideal Proportions 0

What proportions are factored into this? I talked to bill pearlman and he said that this particular stone is not a TRUE AGS000 as the cut is AGS1.

Do you all agree with this? I''d appreciate it if anyone could help clarify.....

Can I please get some more feedback on this diamond???

When I initially started this thread I wrote down that this was a AGS000 (what my jeweler told me) but it isn''t. It''s an AGS1. I wanted to know if this is still a good deal and a good diamond with the specs shown.

I''ll be seeing it in person but before I make my decision I want to know what you all think.. whether I should jump on this deal or pass!!!!!!

Read the previous posts carefully and you will see that people have told you that this diamond is probably fairly nice, but not "ideal" by the strict PS standards that many people like around here. Using the HCA tool, this diamond scores a 2.3, which is "Very Good, worth buying if the price is right." It scores "very good" for brightness, fire, and scintillation. You can use the search tool to look for diamonds that are similar to the one you are considering and decide for yourself if the price is right. You also need to see the diamond before you make up your mind, since you need to determine whether it is eye-clean from all angles. Some SI2s are eye-clean, others are not. Then, when you have seen it and compared the price of other similar stones, then you need to decide if you want to buy it! Only you can make that decision, no one here is going to tell you whether or not the stone is a "good deal" (since only you can decide what compromises you are willing to make for price/size etc.). If you are looking for an "ideal" stone by the numbers, this is not it. But it may be really nice and the stone for you! No can can judge that but you!

Lorelei also mentioned that you should get an ideal scope image of the stone because that will help determine if it is a "good deal".

Good luck, let us know if you like it when you see it!

I think LHSM is still shocked that the jeweler told him/her that the stone is AGS000 and it''s AGS1.

Does this still make it a good deal. Hmm.

That''s up to you. But I feel your jitter''s trusting a jeweler who didn''t give you correct designation (sounds like basic error or not).

If you want AGSO then this is not the one. Although it probably performs just as well to the eye.

My stone barely slid into AGS0 and its off by barely a degree to yours on some of the #''s - go figure!

Get those IS images.

Let us know how it goes.

hey guys!!!

turns out this diamond is still available and my jeweler will be bringing it in for me to see in person tomorrow.

if this diamond checks out and is eye clean what do you all think about the deal? its a 1.29 AGS1 for 5,000..

let me know!!!!! =)

The price you''re getting is about equal to online pricing, and very low for a brick and mortar store. There are very few "deals" in diamond jewelry - you usually get what you pay for. The way that people on this forum maximize their value is usually by purchasing online, where prices are lower, and by trading off clarity or color, depending on preference.

Additional clouds and surface graining are not shown.

This is, I''m pretty sure, why I have a relatively high personal preference for clarity (I care about it more than color, definitely).

What does this possibly mean? "Additional clouds" not shown? I personally don''t believe
that clouds don''t affect the way a diamond looks. I''ve been told that, but I''ll never believe it. And, I don''t like the "iffy" requirements of listing clouds on reports.

Regardless, I''m a strong believer in happiness with one''s choice- and I''m not making any
comment on this diamond. I hope it works out!

Your question has been answered in length above. Asking it repeatedly will not draw new answers. IMHO u should stop worrying about whether its a "deal" and instead whether its truly the diamond for you..once any savings (real or perceived) are forgotten, will you and your intended be happy with the diamond as it is? If My Fi had been mostly concerned about getting a "good deal" with my ering I may have been offended. But thats just imo, I'm in no way trying to attack you or anything!
5.gif

As far as the AGS1 grade, many believe its not possible for lay people to see the difference between an AGS0 and 1, but then again most PS'ers do

AGS000

Ideal Polish 0
Ideal Symmetry 0
Ideal Proportions 0
That is very close to correct, but as of 2005, AGS000 means

Ideal Light Performance 0 (judged by diamond-specific ray tracing, not two-dimensional proportions)
Ideal Proportions Factors 0 (this is now weight ratio, durability, tilt/girdle reflection, etc.)
Ideal Finish 0 (this is polish and symmetry – the lowest score is reported)

This is a very difficult issue to keep straight and also an issue when people thing that an AGS 0/0/0 means an Ideal Cut, D color, Internally Flawless diamond, which is the original and still actual meaning of AGS 0/0/0. To be sure not to cause an AGS 0 cut grade stone appear to be an AGS D-IF with a 0 cut grade I always add something like this. This diamond is an AGS 0 cut grade or AGS 0/0/0/ cut grade and then give the color and clarity. The actual cut grade is a 0, which requires the three sub grades listed above to all have 0 grades, thus the confusion.

Answered the cut question in my previous post. You are actually correct, the "true" meaning of AGS 0/0/0 is O cut, D color, and IF clarity. (AGS does NOT grade Flawless, only Internally Flawless.) If he had specified
AGS 000 cut grade then you would not be having this question in your mind.

I am not a big fan of "list price, but especially for you since we just met today, your price" price quoting. But that is for another thread perhaps.
