Additional clouds and surface graining are not shown.

This is, I''m pretty sure, why I have a relatively high personal preference for clarity (I care about it more than color, definitely).

What does this possibly mean? ''Additional clouds'' not shown? I personally don''t believe
that clouds don''t affect the way a diamond looks. I''ve been told that, but I''ll never believe it. And, I don''t like the ''iffy'' requirements of listing clouds on reports.

Regardless, I''m a strong believer in happiness with one''s choice- and I''m not making any
comment on this diamond. I hope it works out!

This is exactly why most of us vendors try to get people to buy with their eyes, not paper. These comments cause Bogey men to come out of the closet that do not really exist, but are accurate descriptions of what exists in a diamond.

In this picture from Gary Roskin''s wonderful book, Photo Masters For Diamond Grading, published by GemWorld International you will see a very tiny cluster of crystals in a VVS2 diamond. This is not at all untypical of what is called a cloud, although I can not know if this was called a cloud or not since there is no copy of the GIA paper with the picture.

If you attempt to diagram this cloud it ends up looking like a VS2-SI1 instead of the VVS2 that it actually is, thus the wording that strikes fear into your heart.

All that having been said, you wisely also state that it is a personal taste matter and that is what you choose. I accept that and appreciate it, I just wanted to present the other side as well.

Oops, I accidentally grabbed the VS2 rather than the VVS2. Actually both of them have What might be considered clouds, with Mr. Roskin actually referring to the photo I showed you in the VS2 as a cloud. It is MUCH easier to see than the cloud or pinpoints that are shown in this photo. This photo could have either the designation cloud not shown or additional pinpoints not shown, it would be interesting to have seen the paper that came with this stone to know exactly how it was handled. I have seen such things called clouds and I have seen them called pinpoints.
