This deserves it's own thread, as a nod to Lightbox loose diamonds and to share my great fortune. The jeweler called this a.m. and I missed the call as I was out running errands with my 17 year old son(who's a great kid!) He has been struggling with depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation all year(hospitalized, sees a psych, missed a semester of school, etc) He was agitated as we left the store and loaded our vehicle. I could have cried, worrying that his own frustration will lead to an 'episode'(of suicidal threats, and lots of negative talk and tears and struggle). The kids have the day off from school(so do I-I teach part-time) and it's a glorious, chilly autumn morning here in Michigan. Let's just say I felt WHOLE. His ongoing struggles(and my own battle with breast cancer last year) have really knocked the stuffing out of my soul.

We drove home in silence and I am ready to bawl my eyes out. Just so HARD. And his dad is a piece of crap(hence why I am selling off the last of my diamonds from him, and acquiring my own new stuff). And the jeweler calls back. I am hesitant to see if there's any good news from him regarding the stones.

He says, "Wow, Victoria, these stones are amazing. Where did you get them?" I told him and hurriedly asked if he could provide the specs. He said, "Well, they are two carats each. And wow, they are cut very well." I said, "Ok, how do they measure? Jenn said yesterday they are 7.5 stones and that doesn't seem right." He said, "Let me check. (He checks). Then says, "Well, the one is exactly 8.0 mm and the other is 8.13mm so the second one faces up a little bit larger. I said, "Will that be a problem in earrings?" He said, "Not at all." Then I asked him the colour of the stones. He said, "These stones are beautiful. At least an F!" I was thrilled and responded, "Ok, looks like I am keeping them!"

So, I am supremely relieved and THRILLED that the stones are even better than predicted and expected. I am thrilled that I get to treat myself to these forever earrings, and I am thankful to have a community that will read this and be happy for me(Cuz noone else understands 'diamond luv' like y'all do :) I shared with him the price paid, and he exclaimed, "I'd have 4K per stone through my source..." then we discussed the future of the lab diamond a little bit.

I am headed there soon to choose the setting. I think it will be the curved basket with double claw prongs in white gold(not sure if 14k or 18k) And that is all.

Thank you for reading and supporting. These earrings are going to mean a lot to me!

xx

NEED. PICTURES. ASAP

(and sorry about your son. I have one similar without the ideation, but my BIL killed himself at 34 a few years ago so I get it. BIG HUGS, MOM)

I am SO chuffed for you I cannot stand it.. cannot WAIT to see them set congratulations momma!!!

First off you are a great Mom, your son is lucky to have you!

Second thank you for your post, I can not wait to see more pictures of your Lightbox MMD's!

Wonderful news! And good for you for giving yourself this well deserved gift and ridding yourself of old jewelry with bad vibes. I'm sending my love and support to you as you care for your son and I am so glad you have a beautiful bucket list jewelry item to look forward to wearing!

I am so happy to hear that!

I hope these earrings bring you joy even when day to day life can be overwhelming to say the least.
I am glad the color is good too! Congrats and PLEASE post lots of pics of them loose and then when they are set!!

You are not alone with having a child who is struggling deeply and then having your own serious health issues on top of things. My son is an adult with depression and health issues but it is so hard not being able to fix things even when they are legally not “ a kid” anymore. Watching them struggle is painful to say the least. (((Hug)))

Ok so back to diamonds!
I can’t wait to see how they turn out! I am so excited for you!

I’m so sorry. I lost my dad to suicide when I was 18. My 26 year old son has struggled for 15 years ( BIG struggles as well) so, in short, I’m so depleted I don’t feel much of anything) (((hugs))) to you. Thanks for sharing

Thank you for sharing. Yes! My 26 year old son has been struggling for 15 years. He finally moved in with his older brother this year and life is a little more tolerable. Diamonds are the reward for our caregiving and devotion :) (((hugs))) to you

Hugs and blessings to you and your son! The whole pandemic is not helping anyone's mental health at all. Peace and wholeness to you both.

And may your beautiful new diamonds bring sparks of strength and happiness whenever you see them.

Thank you, sweetie. It is sad, but comforting, to realize that I am not alone in this 'aloneness' against my child's mental health struggles. I swear PS and diamonds are my escape, my happy place. (((hugs)))

I am not a native, but from Pittsburgh, so this familiar weather as we head to loonnnggggg winter is not new to me ;). These sparkles keep me going. I am going to put up the Christmas tree early November, because why not?
Where in CA would you send it? I really want a large (4ct+) lab diamond and fiance says sure. I think Jonathan at Distinctive Gems is a great resource. Maybe reach out to him? SO many delightful and talented jewelers at our fingertips here. Tell me about your stone, so I can be excited for you, too :)

I am all for putting up a Christmas tree in November!!! I have worked with David Klass before and Jonathon of Distinctive gem is so nice! His diamond cuts are so gorgeous too. I got the 1.75ct (~7.7mm) lightbox diamond and I am super happy with it! The price is so good too. The biggest I’ve had before this diamond is 7mm so I’m hoping it fulfills my big diamond blingy dreams. I think I’m going to get it set in a simple solitaire with claw prongs. Here are a couple pics! I can’t wait to see your finished product as well.

Stunning stone!!! I love claw prongs-delicate and classic. I’ve seen DK’s work-fabulous! Can’t wait to see your ring!!!

:kiss2: It looks lovely

Stones look amazing! Congrats on getting good stones! Lol i can't wait to see your earrings.

I'm sorry about what you and your son are going through and have gone through .
I'm sending good, positive, healing energy your way.

I have a 17 year old that's also depressed and anxious and won't leave her room. And I'm also a breast cancer survivor, 10 years coming up and I'll be done with treatment in a few weeks!! What are the odds huh? Didn't realize so many people are going through the same thing as me.

It's the mental health struggles for my child that are drowning me. I know that we BC thriver/survivors need to reduce our stress, but geesh. When our kids suffer, WE suffer. I don't have much time to focus on it(BC) because of all of 'this'. Sparklies are my escape. Gives me peace and a better mood....I'm so happy to hear you are close to ten years. It inspires me and gives me much hope for myself and others. (((hugs) to you and your daughter. These are strange times we are living in-I feel for everyone.
