It’s not a OEC, WAY out of spec for a circular brilliant so it gets the catch all from GIA - round brilliant. But one look at the faceting and the frosted girdle, and you know it’s old’ish. My estate jeweler reset it into the current setting, saying it had come out of an original 1940’s plain solitaire ring. I feel in love and she came home despite not being my normal cup of tea.

I would not have thought a RB would have a culet that large - no matter how badly cut. Anyone else think it was an tranny, late as hell OEC recut at some point to look more modern and put back into its original setting?

Probably a 40s-80s cut. Will not show much dirt as shallow stones have less leakage.

The black star parts will be dark from close inspection. I 'shot' a ray into that triangle marked in green. On very close inspection your head will cause that part to be dark as we can see in your close up photos.
But as I have been saying for +20 years - shallow proportion diamonds can have special benefits.
This diamond will not show dirt anywhere near as much as a "ideal-supa dupa diamond" and when viewed from further away than 45cm 15 inches it will perform well.

@Garry H (Cut Nut) As always you are a valued font of knowledge. Thank you.

I don’t spend nearly as much time as others fixation on the math of cuts and very much rely on my eye as I do with all art. A cut diamond is technical art to me and you just can’t strip aesthetics out of the equation.

My eye clearly likes shallow stones as most of the ones I am drawn to are quite shallow intend.

The point about not showing dirt is fascinating and the ’shot’ line illustrates it well - again, thank you. We all know the prêchant for naming stones around her, perhaps this one will be known as Garry :)

When you say ‘40s - 80s’ do you mean a stone from the 1940ms recut in the 1980’s?

One more photo - caught some great indirect sunlight today. Looks at Garry glow!IMG_0914.jpeg

No..just cut and polished first time in that period.

Love it and your pairing!

Thank you. I’ve been circling back to some yellow gold in the last few months from my normal parade of platinum…
