Hello All! I just recently joined PS after spending some time reading many posts here yesterday. I'm beginning to think about (and save for) an engagement ring. I know I've found my lifelong match and I can't wait to continue my life with her!
I already have a pretty good idea of what I'm looking for in the ring, but I need a little help finding something that I have pictured in my mind. My girl really only has 2 things that she's always pictured her ring to have - yellow diamond accent stones and a silver colored band. That information paired with my understanding of her style has made this a blast to research and browse.
So far I have come up with 2 main options:
Option 1:
A modern-classic 3-stone setting with a center diamond (just shy of 1ct) surrounded by 2 yellow diamonds (I was thinking around .5ct each), and a band containing channel or pave set stones. This was the first thing I thought of when starting this quest, but the more I think about it, I fear the setting may result in something too large for her rather small hands, as most 3-stone settings that I have seen are a little "bulky". This is an example of the style I was thinking of for this option: http://www.bluenile.com/three-stone-diamond-ring-platinum_5923
Option 2: My Current Favorite
A band of floating diamonds (3 per side - 2 white, then 1 yellow) tiering up towards a center diamond (just shy of 1ct). I have fallen absolutely in love with this setting: http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-engagement-ring-setting-platinum_12959
My Problem:
Because of the integration of yellow diamonds, I'm having an extremely hard time finding a setting that would work, as they almost all come with the side-stones already in place. I would like to purchase this ring in 4 sections - the setting, the center diamond, the yellow diamond pairs, then the process of having it all put together. I want to do this for a few reasons, one being financial-related. I'd rather have 4 smaller things to save for than 1 giant item that seems unobtainable. Also, I would really like to select my own side-stones rather than settle on some that are included in the setting already. *sigh* The more I write, the more I think to myself "custom job"... but I don't know anything about that.
The good thing is that I have time on my side. While we have talked about it extensively and have agreed that it's just a matter of time, situations in both of our lives right now dictate that a wedding is at least 2 years away. I also happen to know that she is not expecting an engagement for a little bit either. Fortunately, this should allow me to continue saving and allow me to purchase the quality items that she deserves and will adequately symbolize the start of our family.
I am looking for a few things with this post:
Thank you in advance to all who reply to this post. Your help is definitely appreciated!!

I am looking for a few things with this post:
- *Diamond size suggestions for both Options
- *Recommended 4C's for each side-diamond in Option 2 (where can I safely sacrifice?)
- *General Opinions
- *Feedback on both Options
- *Advice/Guidance on my thinking and style choices
- *Help finding a similar setting available without stones (as mentioned above)
- *Guidance on the process of purchasing everything individually then having a jeweler put it all together
Thank you in advance to all who reply to this post. Your help is definitely appreciated!!
