I was in yet another antique mall yesterday when I spotted this cameo that I couldn't live without. That profile!
She is some version of Juno, but I can't be sure without asking the carver who's long gone.
She is carved from helmet shell, and the frame is rolled gold. Based on the clasp style, she dates to about 1890 or so.
I was gonna put this in "who wants to see my haul" but I thought she deserved her own thread.

Finely carved cameos are hard to find in my neck of the woods, so I was pleasantly surprised!
Of course there are plenty online, but those sell for $$$

I was smitten when I saw her! And a steal at $20.
I will probably wear her on a chain,
hopefully I won't get poked on that long pin back.

I remember someone suggesting to wear a rubber earring back over the pin tip, but that one is quite long and visible. I'm not sure how you'd going about easily disguising it.

Yes, anything I put on there will show. I'll have to deal with it!
I will try a small dab of hot glue. That will cover the point, and will be less noticable.
Edit: hot glue doesn't stay! Maybe I'll just keep it as a brooch.

So far so good on a chain.
It doesn't seem to be catching on my shirt.
I think this will work!

Whoa, that's very good carving! You stole that! Put some E6000 on the end and let it cure 24 hours, that should stay on.
