I don't wear much jewelry at one time. One of the things I wear daily pretty much 365 days a year is a diamond pendant. Many old members remember my original favorite wear pendant, the .78c K VS ACA in a bezel pendant. I wore that happily for what...almost 6 years? Longer? It's my avatar.
Recently while trying to find a 2c OEC I came across a 2c transitional set into a pendant. I bought it planning to make it a ring. It turned out to be way too chipped up for a ring, it would cause durability issues and most likely need a recut, but while playing around with it on my neck (it was a stunning necklace with 10 10 pointer OMC's set up to the main stone), I thought gee I could really rock a larger pendant. And the wheels started turning.
The next purchase for the neck was a loose 1.36c that I bought on eBay, had a bezel milgrain rose gold setting made by BGD and turned into a stunning piece. However, it just was too much for me with the bezel, milgrain and the size of the stone itself all together. I was just too used to wearing a simple piece like the smaller bezeled stone on a daily basis. I know, too much, what??? Who am I? So it found a new home with a lovely PS lurker.
At this point I wasn't quite sure what I wanted...but I kept my eyes open. So when I happened upon a pendant locally that caught my eye, I perked up. It had an amazing faceting pattern. I really love the later OEC's almost transitionals because of their precise faceting pattern and great symmetry, but I also love a good classic OEC with the flower patterning. This faceting was more classic OEC with some head obstruction but the louped pattern was just breathtaking to me. So I bought it. It turned out to be a 1.40c 7.25mm estimated GIA J/K stone. It would be a VS1 at least if it wasn't for the extensive girdle bites from being worn in a ring by the gal's grandma for many years. I could have it recut, it would lose maybe .20ct but I just don't want to chance changing the pattern..I just love it. It's perfect for a pendant. I can see the faceting pattern when I look in the mirror and see the stone, and it's big enough to stand on it's own without a bezel for me. It was set in a simple platinum 4 prong basket pendant, so I left it as is for now. I was wearing it on a simple platinum chain but I picked up a beautiful .10ctw DBTY in NYC on my last trip that just adds the tiniest bit of sparkle and compliments it wonderfully.
I won't say this is my 'forever' pendant because ...yeah I kind of liked that original 8mm stone on my neck! But for now this thing is plenty big..and packs a visual punch. And the faceting pattern, just love it. It is probably my 2nd fave of all my OEC's in terms of faceting... the first being my 3.33 of course!
