Thinking about purchasing an emerald cut...

Hello! I have started my ring search and have decided on an emerald cut. There is sentimental meaning behind the shape for me. I came across these emerald cuts on James Allen .. our budget is a bit tight. I will be setting in the white gold 2mm knife edge band. Is this a good option?

I also have this one on hold...

Any help would be great thank you!

Looks dead in the middle.

Much better choice. Need to ask if eye-clean at an SI2.

What is your budget and what is the shape that you are looking for?

Edit - do you just mean EC shape or is there a particular ratio you are looking for?

They have already confirmed the .34 carat is eye clean. I just mean the emerald cut shape in general. I tend to like squarer emerald better. Around 1.30-1.35 ratio or so.
Our budget is $1000 for the ring.

I'm by no means an EC expert or novice for that matter....but would you consider a lower grade stone perhaps in a rose gold halo, bezel or setting ? Perhaps later on with a trade in policy in place you can trade whatever stone in you buy from JA. Here is a K stone, with vvsi overkill clarity....but is promising. So perhaps with a rose gold setting, it might work out ok. GIA doesn't specify "faint brown" on the cert so perhaps in real life its just a bit tinted. Is a good thing I think for helping the stone face up whiter than it could possibly face up. An idea anyway & those with emerald cut knowledge will sound off soon. :appl: Looks like a pink tint. For me personally, I would rather have a faint brown tint thank a yellow one. All the best...

Just to add...your budget is very low. No intended slander here, just being honest. Consider upping your budget a bit, paying a wire fee, asking about a PS discount & buying a simple solitaire. Then in future, perhaps reset your stone & use your original setting as a gemstone setting so that it will always be with you. JA has a 15% off sale as you probably know... is a good savings.

Check with Etsy on used settings. Or perhaps Ebay. I'm sure some of the seasoned members here will know where to direct you to the vintage/estate sections of Ebay, Etsy or Ruby Lane etc....

This one is very pretty with a bezel...http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/14k-white-gold-bezel-solitaire-engagement-ring-emerald-center-item-41279 Maybe over budget though.... Best to ask JA about what settings can be made in the EC style.

Is ABSOLUTELY FRUSTRATING that they sell fancy shapes so frequently but do not display the option for fancy shapes to purchase. Seems that most of their settings are Round, Cushion or Princess. They need to get with the program & realize they have been selling a lot of Fancy shapes as well & open their stock options to reflect that. Ugh! You can always ask about a setting though that you like & is not available for a radiant. ASK! LOL

All the best..:-)

With the 15% Valentine's discount that makes this one fit nicely in your budget..

That is a nice one. I'll look into it thanks!

PS What's the best way to tell if it's a good performer? The numbers looked good to me on the ones I found. Is there anything else I should be looking at?

Actually the 15% is only on settings and jewelry not on loose diamonds. They will only give you either the discount on the setting or you can ask about the James Allen advantage price (they no longer call it the Pricescope Discount). I wish I could get both :naughty:

You know what, I saw that EC. I think it's gorgeous! BUT we definitely couldn't do the bezel setting. It's too out of budget with the diamond already being more than we want to spend. And I would definitely do white gold as I dislike rose gold. I'm not sure how the stone would face up. Nice option though thank you

Looks like someone snagged that one up already

I just want to add we have tried a few pre-owned rings and I am not satisfied with the quality. I just never know how the cut will be regardless of specs. I am picky about cut. Also DH does not like the idea of pre-owned at all (I did it anyway but he wasn't into the idea). He wants me to wear something new. I most definitely would like a solitaire as my style is simple and I don't want to worry about losing little stones. I already have a wedding band in white gold and this ring must match.
