The sales people were really vague about why there was no GIA cert. ring purchased in Oct. 2007. The T&Co. paperwork

does not show the inclusion (crystal I saw under microscope) but has all stone dimensions, etc.

I know you all probably covered this a million times -- sorry to rehash.....

Which co. is best to insure?

Thanks!

Tiffany''s no longer issues GIA cert''s with their rings they do in house grading.

You do not need a GIA cert for insurance you may however need to get an independent appraisal or an appraisal of value from tiffany''s :)

For insurance, check out www.jewelersmutual.com and www.chubb.com as they may suit your needs.

I have a tiffany ring also-you just need the appraisal to get it insured which they will send out to you in the post.

oh wow...that''s shocking to hear that Tiffany''s of all places doesn''t give you a GIA cert.

Tiffany's grading is very accurate, many times more tight then GIA so I've heard. It's also another step in the image they are trying to sell, along with a bunch of other reasons that have been discussed here. nothing wrong with at all IMO.

This must be something fairly new with T & Co--everything I have from them has a GIA or AGS cert as well as their own write-up.

Our SA told us that it seems to have been in the past 2-3 years that they got rid of the GIA cert. Not sure if that''s true though.

Thanks for the feedback -- still I feel leary not knowing "exactly" where the inclusion/s are and the VS1 comes from. They said they would send it back to NY and have it mapped. What a hassel. Why didn''t they just do it in the first place!
