Hello,

I am interested in a setting that Bluenile has but, do not wish to buy from them since I cannot see the diamond. I contacted James Allen for a custom request and they quoted 2050 for it in Platinum. BN has it for 920$ and I cannot bring myself to spend more than twice for it. BN won't sell me the setting since the head is not changeable. What do I do?

Here is the setting:

True, you cannot see the images of a specific diamond on BN, but you CAN return a stone if you're not satisfied once you get it...

What kind of stone are you looking for? I'm sure the folks here could find you a really great one on BN's site.

Hi more,

There is no reason for our price to have been 2x as much. I think there must have been some confusion in total carat weight of the band or some other detail. If you email back your rep I can promise the revised quote will be substantially less.

Have you thought about the logistics of this ring? Will the ring-wearer also wear a wedding band with the ring? I think with this style, an additional spacer band would have to be worn because the side pave will scratch any metal or additional diamonds on another band.

Yes, I did and they said that they cannot compete with prices of in stock items.

Well you have several options.

First, chose a different setting. NOW-- I understand you want that one. But actually it's a poor choice in terms of design unless you plain to wear it alone, without a wedding band. That ring has pave exactly where you don't want pave-- on the sides. Any band you wear that's metal there will get scratched all to heck and back and will still damage those stones unless it's really well designed. Any band you wear with diamonds there will break or scratch stones on both rings. So... I get that you love it. But if you want it, forgot about a wedding band.

Second, you can have it custom made but it will cost you much more because you will have to pay for re-inventing the wheel, instead of just buying the wheel.

My best advice is-- find another setting to love or buy from Blue Nile and forget a wedding band. HONESTLY , if you are buying a round Blue Nile is pretty darned safe. Buy from their signature line and make sure it has an HCA under 2.0. If you are really worried about the performance, find a local appraiser with an idealscope and take it to them within the return period and check it out there.

I am considering this for my anniversary upgrade. My wedding band is sorta similar to this ring, it has micropave on 3 sides and I thought that this would go well with it. It's good to get some opinions on the setting. There are a few others I like but, I don't want to spend more than 1K on the setting, I'd rather spend it on the diamond itself.

I've posted regarding a diamond too:

Well. If you want to destroy both your rings by wearing them together, go for it. Otherwise, you're looking at a spacer or a different setting.

That is a lovely setting - Ritani had one a few years back that was very similar that I adored.

But the warnings are true - that is a "stand alone" type ring; a band will not play nice with it.

IMO, yes. It is.

So... what are you looking for? Do you have pics of you band/existing set? How big a diamond are you thinking of getting.

@Gypsy: Attached a picture of what I have right now. I want a slim shank, with pave setting, no split shank, no cathedral , clean lines where the whole diamond can be seen. Also, turns out I am allergic to white gold so I'm considering platinum for my new setting.

I like this Ritani too but, it might be too expensive for what I want to spend on a setting.

I'm looking at a 1.3carat round diamond. Here are the specs:

Shape: Round
Carat weight: 1.30
Cut: Excellent
Color: G
Clarity: VS1
Certificate: GIA
Depth: 61.8%
Table: 56.0%
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Girdle:
Culet:
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 7.03*6.99*4.33
Crown Angle: 34.5
Crown %: 15.00
Pavilion Angle: 41.0
Pavilion %: 43.00

This has a HCA of 1.8

@Christina: No that is not the setting, JA gave me a custom quote.

Too risky a setting for me, personally, but you might like it: http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/jewelry-designers/sholdt-jewelry/rings/29ZZ1/7/

Thank you, both of these settings are nice. I've seen one similar to the one you've sent but, I want a one with a basket(not sure if that's the right term).

These 2 are nice but, cathedral

Regarding the diamond, I want to stick to VS1/VS2 G/H color.
