disarming the people seems to be inherent in any and all types of government.

Sweden is a Constitutional Monarchy. Its name is actually The Kingdom of Sweden. Norway is also a Constitutional Monarchy, and is known as the Kingdom of Norway. I think that may make a difference. Also, these European countries have been around a LOT LOT LOT longer than the USA. In fact, I think that this country and our way of life is somewhat of an experiment. Most of what is in the rest of the world has been going on for centuries. And is still going.....something must be working. Socialism is bad when it cuts into freedom of speech and religion. So far, I don''t see much of that in the 2 aformentioned countries.

I've actually read several stories about the lack of freedom of speech in both Norway & Sweden. Thanks for correcting the misinformation that they are examples of socialist countries. The last socialist country I've been to was VN & let me tell you, things are not all peachy there...the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. It opens up the floodgates to government corruption (yes, even more so than what we have now) when the government controls everyone and everything. Don't get me started on "freedom" of speech or religion! To answer the OP, NO I don't think Obama's policies would make us a socialist country, but I definitely think it would tip the scale away from capitalism. I don't have that S word fear, though.
