The Ring that Got Away

It's been a few months now and I'm still kicking myself for not snatching this up quicker. If I remember correctly, the price was like $7,500-7,800. Initially, I was not seriously looking and didn't notice there was a "make an offer" option. Later, I told DH about the ring and he gave me the go ahead to make an offer. I started doing my homework (about the florescence and the cut). I read somewhere that a .99ct was rare and could be a bad cut. Since Tiffany does it's own grading, I was trying to do some research. Well, I took to long and then someone scooped it up. It was just what I was looking for... sigh... my dream ring. It was my exact size and came with the plain band I wanted as well for casual days. OK, end of my pity party. I'm a brat. :((

Really pretty! So sorry you missed it ;(

I know how you feel. I bought a gorgeous antique 5 stone in Platinum, had second thoughts, returned it, someone else bought it, and now I have serious regrets. :(( It was such a great price too, I'm kicking myself for returning it.

That does seem like a great price for the brand. Still, are you sure that part of what you're feeling isn't jealously because you were looking at it first? I don't mean that in a negative way, but I don't know how else to put it, lol. My point is that if you HAD gotten the ring, you may well have returned it in favor of something else. We can't dwell on what could have been. At least you now know that what you want is out there. Next time you'll be ready. ;)

Laila619: Oh no, that would be hard to have had it and then returned it... I'm sorry. :nono:

Smilligan: Yes, I'm sure it wasn't just jealousy, lol. It had all the specs I wanted (except I wasn't sure about the faint florescence at the time). I'm a newbie so I'm still learning. From what I've read now, I don't think the florescence would have been a problem. I'm still researching the .99ct thing (if they are mistakes in cutting). I don't think that would have been an issue though either. I'm still trying to find some problem with this ring so I feel better, lol. :read:

MayK: Thank you so much for the links. I should have mentioned that I did get a ring already (my second choice). It's a .91ct F VVS2 ex/vg/vg. I got a great deal on it so I can't complain. Also, this is a slight upgrade for me, as I originally had a .72ct E VSI. I'm just a little obsessive and was idealizing the specs of the .99ct (ex/ex/ex, higher color, lower clarity, great price, etc).

From what I can see is that it is an active listing with a price of $6500. Maybe it has been relisted? Best of luck!

ZoeS: Unfortunately, it's sold; I contacted them to make sure. When it's an active listing it has an "add to cart" button. I agree that it is sort of confusing.

A .99 is more likely well cut as opposed to poorly cut, because most cutters will do what is necessary to get a stone to weigh 1.0 ct because it will sell for more than a .99. But I don't think you have to worry so much about that with Tiffany stones as they don't generally have bad stones.

Second hand Tiffany rings are pretty readily available, but that does sound like a great price. Second hand is the best way to buy Tiffany, in my opinion, since you eliminate some of the brand mark-up.

DS2006: Thanks for the info. I don't know why I didn't immediately get on here and ask about the ring. Instead I got on here to read about fluorescence. Now I know for next time I guess. :nono:

I'm an eBay fanatic, but had just discovered this idonowidont site. That's part of the reason that I didn't realize right away that I could submit an offer.

Is faint fluorescence not as good as no fluorescence at all? From what I read, it doesn't seem to have a significant effect.

Cozystitches: I'm sorry you missed out as well. Hope you find another soon. :((

The difference between faint and no fluorescence will be negligible, even under a black light. Below are a couple of comparison images for you.

Smilligan: Thank you for the comparison photos. Sigh, now I know for next time. ::: kicks myself ::: :nono:

That's ok. Don't feel so badly. I am sure part of you is idealizing it b/c you weren't able to buy it. Who is to say that you would have liked it for sure? Maybe you would have received it and then it would not have appealed to your eye. Your stone is out there, and when it's meant to be, you will have it. :)
