While home for Christmas, my FF got some family stones that he was thinking about using in my ring (a 1 ct stone that was in a ring that belonged to his dad, and four 1/2 ct stones that were in a ring his that belongs to his mom). He had told me about the stones prior to Christmas so I was bursting with wanting to know what he thought about them so far but he was being evasive about it. On Saturday morning said he was going out to run some errands, aka get the stones appraised. I figured he was going to leave it at that, just to have an idea of what he had to work with and where he had to go from there, but just out of curiosity asked if he wanted to tell me about how his errands went. I can never leave well enough alone, but it worked, and I got some info out of him!
So turns out, the four 1/2 ct stones are all of very good quality, but the 1 ct. stone, while excellent color/clarity, was very poorly cut. However, it can be recut into an ideal cut, about .75-.8 ct. So FF gave them the go ahead to do that, as well as worked up some preliminary designs for a 3 stone ring using the recut stone and 2 of the 1/2 ct stones. I was surprised he decided to go ahead with all of this so quickly, but I''m also very excited!
I still don''t expect a proposal until late spring/early summer but maybe I''m wrong on that - every time I ask FF when he thinks it will happen he always says the same thing - "It''s hard to say." Now that I know the ring is being worked on I feel like I''m going even crazier trying to figure out when it''s going to happen. I know I do want to be surprised but yet I keep pestering him and trying to guess! Anyone else feel like that?
