Pandora - that half hour didn''t make much of a difference. You''ll still see the shifts in temp when you need to see them (such as for ovulation and menstration) so, just continue to take your temp when you first wake up and you''ll still be on track.

So, I''m a bit confused...I''ve been using the Answer OPK test strips for the whole cycle (I use them for most of my cycles) and yesterday I got what looked like it was a positive, same with this morning. However, I also bought Clear Blue Easy OPKs - I was meaning to buy the digital (the one with a smiley face), but accidentally bought the regular kind.

This monring, I used both the Answer and CBE OPK. The Answer appeared to be positive and the CBE OPK was negative. Also, this morning I had a temp shift so, I''m trying to figure out if I O''d yesterday. What do you all think?

Maybe I haven''t O''d yet at all and the Answer test strips from yesterday and today were negative?

Okay. Quick question here.

The temperature saga continues...

I set my alarm for 6am to wake up and temp. This morning, I must have hit snooze for an HOUR, as when I woke up it was just after 7am. I know this couldn't have been restful sleep, as I was waking and hitting the snooze for an hour.

My temp was 98.24. SUPER high for me.

Well, I ended up going back to sleep - a pretty deep sleep, uninterrupted, for an hour and a half...I temped when I woke up and it was down to 98.02.

Clearly, my temps get wonky if I wake up before hand. When I entered this info, FF put my O date back to the 18th instead of the 17th.

I'm half tempted to discard both of my SUPER high post O temps, as they both happened on morning where my sleep was repeatedly interrupted for the hour before I temped.

Does this make sense? I am GETTING REALLY FRUSTRATED HERE! What is the point of FF if it changes your freaking O date A WEEK AFTER IT CONFIRMED OVULATION???????

ARGH!

What do you guys think??
 
Robbie - I'm so sorry about your dream and the cup malfunction. Feh. The dream part is just plain cruel.

Lulu - I swear, after getting my hopes up the last couple months...my new mantra is the only real sign of pregnancy is a BFP! But it is hard.

Ebree, BB and Tiffany - I hope you get confirmation of O soon! And then a BFP.

Alright, I've got to get myself ready to go to chitown. I'm verrrrry excited.
 
LL The thing about FF is that it's a tool, and a pretty stupid one at that, that uses your own data to predict when you *might* have O'd. Just a few wacky temps can throw the thing off as it isn't an advanced tool at all. So hang in there, try not to get frustrated! And it does sound like these wacko ones are throwing off your chart, so if your chart is really important to you, then yes, I would throw them out. Sounds like they are throwing it off for sure.

Hang in there girl, it's a PITA. Just remember that it's one of many tools in your toolbelt, and sometimes it's a hit and sometimes it's a miss.

You are totally right...and logically and intellectually, I know that it doesn''t really matter all that much, but for some unknown reason, it is driving me bonkers.

Perhaps because I thought temping and FF would be the one way I could know exactly what is going on...apparently not. Blergh.
 
Ahh, ladies, all these horrible temping questions. I hear ya. All I know is that my cramps are twisting me from the inside and it''s owie. I am a sucker who bought one of those pancake ball pans and I want to make something tasty with it- they are actually called abelskivers, anyone who has been to Solvang or another dutch-type place would know them. They are sooo good, but I want to use it now and it''s all difficult.

Robbie: My grandma had the most HORRIBLE wallpaper in her house- one room was pink metallic (with all sorts of pinks including a hot pink shag rug! Oh the 60s!) and another one was an earth toned metallic with OWLS. Kid you not. It was really weird. Still, now that she''s gone and the fam sold her house, I wish I had a few peelings of that terrible wallpaper.

Our house had 70''s wallpaper throughout most of it and it was a horrible job getting it down. I tried DIF, vinegar, fabric softer, I even tried all 3 mixed together... it seemed like nothing worked and it destroyed our drywall. We finally rented a wall steamer which was a lifesaver (I am not ashamed to admit that I broke into tears when I saw how well it was working) but unfortunatly we waited until the last room to rent it. We had to hire someone to come in and refinish our walls (skim coat) but they look great now. Stripping wallpaper sucks. It was by far the hardest job we''ve done to the house.

We''ve actually been really lucky and ours hasn''t been that bad. We''re just taking our good ole time to do anything

. Our living room was the worst. It had this burlap sack type stuff on the wall. That room has cathedral ceilings. It was really hard to get down, but FIL and MIL did most of it. Seriously, I came home from work one day and it was gone and DH said, ''Oh yeah, my mom and dad stopped by and did it.'' My in-laws are awesome!

Lucky you... that''s what I call the "magical elves" that come in while you''re at work and fix it. That''s how I felt at the end of our major renovating (just before we moved in) when we were hiring people to come help. You are very lucky that your inlaw''s are so great. I also have great inlaws however they are not the DIY types. They did surprise us with dinner on a few nights when we were working but it was my dad who came to help with the actual work. I appreciated everything that both sets of parents did to help. My husband and I are both really lucky to have close families.

That burlap stuff sounds fascinating. We didn''t have anything like that but we did have green, gold, orange, yellow, and red. The gold was some sort of weird metallic material that came off in tiny little shreds.

My FIL loves doing DIY stuff. My SIL (his step daughter) came home from vacation one year and found that he''d finished the unfinished part of her basement and sectioned it off into multiple rooms. Without mentioning anything to her about it first. LOL. We had some metalic orange and gold striped wallpaper. It was actually really easy for us to get down and DH and I did that ourselves.

Amber- I never would have guessed accountant! Do you write regularly? If not, you should. You are simply too funny not to share with the rest of the world! Have you read or heard of that book "I Was Told There''d Be Cake"? It''s a collection of essays, and the author is a girl in her late 20''s, maybe early 30''s who lives in NYC. She was described as David Sedaris meets Carrie Bradshaw- which is annoying to me- why can''t she just be herself? Why does something always have to meet something else????? Anyways, it''s not so much SATC except that she is single and lives in NYC. She has a very strange sense of humor, but it totally works. Anyways, just wanted to let you know that the genre is out there! Oh, and funnily enough, I bought one of my fave David Sedaris collections on audio and have been listening to it the past few days. It is so much funnier to me when he reads his own stuff. I am totally that crazy person who is laughing and hitting the steering wheel alone in my car at stoplights.

AppleQueen- I hear you on the twins thing. I think it''s so amazing that we get all worked up about stuff and our parents just kind of floated through it. My mom thinks getting pregnant is no big deal b/c she didn''t really know anyone that had problems. Oh, and my sister was 3 months premature and weighed 3 lbs too!!! She is just as lovely and as healthy as she can be.
I am happy to enable you! Glad you don''t feel like we are pressuring you. Stick around till you start, that''s what I am doing. I did go off the BCP last week and just want to see what my cycles are like. Right now I am thinking we may start TTC around October as well! MY BFF lives in London and I am planning a trip to see her in October and I really would like to be able to duck into pubs while I am there. Of course, she is trying so who knows. See, there''s always something!!!!

LL- Sorry I have NO idea about the temping thing, so no help here. But hoping you figure it out!

We''ve got lots of fun projects for him. He sounds great. My Dad is a DIY type ... he built my parent''s house and has always done all the work to it. He''s a school administrator but learned from his dad how to do that sort of thing. My husband is an electrican and very handy but I think it''s hard for him to get motivated to work on our house after doing that sort of thing all day. I''m a very white collar, MBA, economic developer who is not enjoying the DIY experience but I admit that I love looking at the finished product and knowing that we did it ourselves.

Sorry for the threadjack... I guess I should go back to waiting to TTC

Ok, I have a question. I have seen the 20% chance statistic and am wondering how that breaks down. Is that a 20% chance each month b/c of all the things that have to line up? Or is that a 20% chance even if you do everything at the right time?

Guess I am trying to figure out if it''s a 20% chance going about it blindly, or still only a 20% chance if you do everything exactly right at the right time. So general population- 20% if know nothing about their fertility? Or still only a 20% even for PS researcher geniuses????

Not sure if that makes sense or not.

I know it''s Tuesday, but I hope everyone had a good weekend! We ended up getting AMAZING tickets to a 49ers game Saturday at the last minute (just pre season, but still fun!). Then, Sunday morning I was ready to log in and say hi to you all and my laptop wouldn''t turn on! Just error messages over and over! Now, I''ve finally got it fixed, and have had to completely reset/reload everything yesterday for the 4th time this year!!! To an internet junkie like me that day and a half was torture

DPO: Days past ovulation, usually the days after temping has pinpoint your actual ovulation day.

O: Ovulation. Also used as O'ing, ovulating

AFF: Aunt F-n Flow, because we just hate to see the period show up.

BFP: Big Fat Positive Pregnancy Test

BFN: Big Fat Negative test

OPK: Ovulation predictor kits, often times are sticks you pee on.

POAS: Pee on a stick

PIAC: Pee in a cup!

Jerkstore, jerkkiosk, jerkminimall: These are all terms referencing to the ladies who come in here to TTC and then find themselves pregnant almost right away. We love them but they're still jerkstores.

FF: Fertility Friend. An online temping site that allows you to enter any signs and temperatures and creates your chart for you, and helps compute Ovulation day.

BBT: Basal Body Temperature, your temp needed to chart.

I know, right? Thinking about that makes me wonder how effective condoms and other forms of BC really are. I mean, if you use condoms correctly 100% of the time they still have a failure rate of something like 3%. It seems kind of high considering you'd only have a 20% chance of getting pregnant if you weren't using condoms AND you timed everything right. I'd be willing to be that while only 3% of people using them correctly get pregnant, most of those people using them correctly weren't doing it at the right time to get pregnant anyway.

I''m pretty sure this will be my last pack.... i guess I have to finish this one (although I''m only 2 pills in).. .just seems like it''ll be easier to get into a normal cycle if I finish this one out correctly. I''m still choking down 2 vitamins every night and I''ll have been taking them for a little over a month when I finish this pack of pills.
 
Ladies, don''t worry. It''s 20% if you''re not being scientific about it. It''s MUCH higher if you actually manage to time it right (and everything else is working correctly), but because it''s hard to know exactly when you ovulate, this may require daily fun for the entire period around possible ovulation.

If you get it on, the day before you ovulate, your chances of conceiving are 33%. If you get it on every fertile day (two days, the day before, and the day of ovulation) the chances are about 36%. Statistically, according to fertility friend''s calculations (as in, they tally ALL charts that end in conception on their site), you only have a 5% chance of getting knocked up if you don''t get it on on one of those three days.

Now, the tricky part comes with keeping that fertilized egg going. A large minority of eggs have chromosomal problems which will result in a miscarriage, which often occurs even before you know you''re pregnant.

If you want to know the facts, I highly suggest having a look at studies in medical journals. Although studies vary somewhat (as in, is the day before or the day of most fertile?), where things are consistent you can have a good handle on it.
 
A while back Indy looked up some stats from research on people who were charting, and it identified the probability of conception for intercourse on particular days in the fertile phase. I believe it was something like: 4 days before ovulation 5%, 3 days before ovulation 15%, 2 days before ovulation 20%, day before ovulation 40%, day of ovulation 15%. These average out to an overall chance of 20%, as other mentioned.

So clearly the day you really want to hit is the day before ovulation, which is why doing the deed every day during the fertile phase may be associated with higher chances on conception.

robbie: i recently had almost the exact same BFP dream. often times my dreams are just so wildly fantastic, but this particular one felt very much like real life. it took me a couple of moments in my still-groggy state to realize it that it hadn''t actually happened.
