Hopefully the mods will let this stick around for foreeeever! This is our place to discuss all things horsey. Share about yours, the ones you ride for others etc. Share about your rides, shows, triumphs, foals, anything horse related. Share favorite books, videos, tack companies etc.!!! This is for all things equine for those of us who have a love for our equine friends.

I''ll have to post my newest pictures tonight as they are not on this computer. I also will get pictures of the other ones I am working with who aren''t mine (two rescue broodies, a barrel mare, a greenie, and a very quirky and spirited cremello mare I am taking lessons on).

In the mean time... share yours!

YAAAAY!!! I hope this thread doesn''t get closed . . . we''ve been needing a forever horsey thread!

As some of you may already know, I''m owned by a 19-year-old OTTB gelding named Red. His registered name is Lucky F (I have absolutely NO idea how they came up with that!) and he''s a grandson of Alydar. He raced for a loooong time (about seven years), and he evented for awhile after he retired from racing. The girl who bought him off the track (the one who evented with him) had been managing an eventing barn in NJ and was unexpectedly let go from that job. Of course, board for Red was one of the perks of her job. So, she found herself with nowhere to board her horse and no job! She took him to a local horse rescue and told them that she didn''t want any money for him at all . . . just please find him a good home. Well, they THOUGHT they found him a good home with a vet. After the vet adopted him, she got married and "no longer had time for him."
20.gif
Evidently, she didn''t have time to FEED him either!!!
29.gif
Or get his teeth and feet properly taken care of.
29.gif
Anyway, she tried to sell him but, shockingly, no one wanted to pay her asking price of $6,000 for an emaciated horse! Can you imagine?!?!
20.gif
So she turned him back in to the horse rescue. The lady who runs the rescue was HORRIFIED when she saw him, but she didn''t say anything to the "vet" . . . she was just glad to have him back! So then I adopted him a short while after that. When I got him, his 16.2-hand self weighed about 850 pounds according to my trusty weight tape, and he was about a two on the Body Condition Scale!!!

So needless to say, priority number one was getting some serious weight on him. I''m proud to say that he ate like . . . well . . . a horse! LOL! He gained that weight in no time at all and he looks great now!

Yay horses! I rode from about 9-19, then didn't ride again until last year really. It was tough! And unfortunately I had to give it up again when I lost my job
7.gif
But hopefully I'll get another job at some point and be able to take lessons again. I find I'm a huge wuss now
3.gif
and much more of a passenger than I ever used to be. So I have a lot of ground to make up!

I did hunter/jumper type stuff as a kid, no shows though, and some polo in college. Loooove polo. I would do that all the time if I could. Too bad I have lousy hand-eye coordination that aids in actually hitting the ball. Sad really. I really wished I had kept it up in college, but practices were Tues/Thurs and all tests for my major were those same days - and most weeks I had at least one test per week. I figured I wouldn't get anywhere with only making it to one practice per week, so I quit. I did live with polo players though, so I got to go to some games and hear about it.

I wish I had some pictures to share. I rode one horse for about 5 years growing up and he was amazing. I loved being able to form a bond with one horse. I also rode one horse for most of my time in polo (first years were given one horse so they could learn without changing horses every week) and she was amazing.

Oh, and I may not have a horse now (or ever, if we keep living in places with $1k+ per month board) but bunnies are ridiculously like horses. They''re absolutely the closest animals to horses - their digestive systems even function the same and they eat basically the same things. So I love my two bunnies - they''re like miniature horses! And they give me an excuse for having hay all over my house. (I even had to get one bun''s teeth filed down today)

I love this horse

Bali likes water bottles

Well I got a scare this morning. The horses didn''t want to be caught, and I had wanted to longe the baby. Well... They proceeded to run around like idiots for half an hour. At one point towards the end of this, I realized my old man was holding his right hind leg UP..... not good. I switched gears to trying to catch HIM. He wouldn''t let me even with feed. The good news is a few minutes later he was putting weight on it, and walking trotting and galloping just fine. I''m assuming he stepped on a rock or took a twist... but omg you can''t imagine how my stomach felt when I saw that hind leg being held up. SO''s mom just lost her old man to a broken leg (he shattered his front cannon).

I just had to share a pic from JT''s first pony ride. He was about 6.5 months old. This little girl belongs to one of my best friends, she''s holding him in the pic. I wish I could give him more chances to ride. Now that he''s 4, he could sit pretty well.

sorry, don''t know why it didn''t attach....

That was really small. I''ve tried resizing...

Sharing Dean today!

Irish!!! Where are Red''s pics?!?! We need some photos of the handsome man.
9.gif

Dragonfly: Bali is so elegant! I love her face, Arabs are so dignified in appearance. Its amazing the stamina and intelligence of the breed. Quiet honestly I don''t have the patience for a horse that can out smart me
2.gif
More pics.

Sorry about the scare Hun. I had one of those with the new mare, she came in last night with a runny swollen eye. OMG
23.gif
. New horse, blind I can see it now. Once my hysterics calmed down it was just allergies. Eyes are something we don''t fool around with... Happy to report guck is gone, and swelling is 95% gone too Whew. Is the "old man" stiff still or is he moving a little better?? Hopefully its just a twist like you said or a little stone bruise.

Shiny: O>M>G JT=Cutest thing ever. I have a pic like that from when I was a kid. I am glad my mom kept it all the years. Its me, about the same age on the fuglest little pinto I have ever seen. At least JT is on a handsome mount

Well then, I guess the buns just get to be honorary "ponies" for the group eeh?

They''re my substitute horses!

I''m going to see if I can get them to show jump

DF, you''ve gotta share more pictures of your beauties! I think Arabs were my first favorite horses. Then I realized I''m tall and moved onto warmbloods and TBs
3.gif

Bali has a gorgeous mane too - look at that hair!

TB- Within ten mins the old man was moving just fine. I had my sister check him this afternoon and he was fine. I''m assuming he either stepped on a stone, or just kinda twisted wrong..

Thank you both for the comments on bali. I''ve had him since he was six months. He''s not registered b/c papers were lost, but he is from national level bloodlines and his sire line is known for their hair lol. He''s no exception. I feel really lucky to have him. His grandsire is what turned me on to arabians, and his father was my favorite of the sons of his grandsire. He was given to me as a graduation present by a friend of mine.

Here is my goofy old man:

RedHeadShot.jpg

This picture was taken a couple years ago, but he looks basically the same. (With the exception of the really bad haircut I gave him on Monday night! LOL!)

awwww he''s pretty!

elrowhen - if I can teach my dog to show jump (I used to train our dogs like they were horses... we had exercise runs.... including breezes... and show jumping) then you can teach your rabbits.

I picked up three new massage horses today...possibly five!!!!
