The new and Permanent HORSEY thread

Today was a great horsey day for me! I first had a lesson with my general riding trainer on a very complicated and high spirited mare. Most people aren''t able to canter this mare and stay in control because she is so light and responds so easily to leg pressure and your seat. If you tighten up she is gone. Well I did great on her!!! I like her a lot.. and she is SO pretty. I''ll have to get pictures. She is cremello, but is built close to andalusian. I then groomed and did ground work with one greenie and did massage on one horse at that barn. I longed my baby and took some time working with his herdbound issues. Then I went to my barrel racing trainer''s and rode her red mare, and her green horse, took a barrel lesson on the red mare, and massaged her black mare. I"ll be rotating massage work on her three barrel racing horses, and possibly two broodmares she rescued in the future after they have regained weight. One of them is from the famous Rugged Lark and I might be purchasing her in the future. I also was offered a job farm sitting in August! I will be sitting 9 horses hopefully! I''m so excited!

Ooooh I love this thread- all your horseys are so handsome. I had my first riding lesson after an approx 15 yr absence yesterday. It was wonderful, but boy am I sore today. My shoulders legs and bottom hurt so much- and I did nt even do that much (walking and trotting). I am fitish, I wonder why I am in SO much muscle pain.

LOL! Mousey, don''t feel bad . . . it''s very common for even very fit people to have a lot of muscle pain after riding, if they haven''t ridden in a while. Riding makes your muscles work in different ways than they''re used to. I bet you''re walking a little funny today! LOL!

Oh yes Irish! And after the lesson my legs literally felt like jelly. My BF thinks its highlarious- he keeps on saying ''you just sat there the horse did all the work''. It was good fun though! I think I ll have a hot bath later- that should sort me out!

Oh goodness this is totally normal Mousey!! You might be walking like John Wayne for a day or two but your muscles will adapt! Put some epsom salts in your bath if you have any, those are good to relieve muscle aches!

Thanks Lorelei- I do have epsom salts. I am looking forward to my soak!

You are welcome! A hot bath will really help with some salts in, I know the discomfort you are in right now!!

HA!!! Little does he know! I think HE needs to take a riding lesson, and THEN we''ll see if he thinks "the horse does all the work"!!!

So true!!

I had a great "horse" day yesterday... Went and rode Rose for about an hour in the ring in the morning, and then several of the other owners out at the barn showed up for the monthly get together. We trail rode (and Rose was the boldest one in the bunch... Momma is SO proud) for abut an hour and she did a nice long walk/cool down from the ring. It was nice to get her outta the ring for a while and I was thrilled she behaved. She was MUCH more forward then everyone else though... LOL

After the trail we headed back to the riders lounge for salmon bagels and mamossias (sp?)... Talk about a nice Sunday! I haven''t been at this barn very long, but so far so good! They do one of these "events" once a month. Next month its Derby month. No one loves the racing industry but we are going to trail ride again, and then head back to the barn for funny hats and mint juleps.

I think I joined a Drinking club with a riding problem not the other way around

Mousey: I''m late to the party, but Congrats! Getting back in the saddle is always a good thing, metally and physcially. Hope you had fun at your lesson!

DragonFly: Just saw your post about the new clients, Congrats to you too girlie! And Farm sitting is always fun, if you are like me it isnt reallllly work. Just a chance to get paid to do what I would have liked to be doing anyway.

Big new barn (40 stalls) indoor, 2 outdoor, lunge ring yadda yadda...PLENTY of room for you two and then some. (Where is Elrohwen?! We need barn bunnies too
12.gif
)

Its set up like a riding club not a show barn which is nice. A few of us do show, and its a great place to ride and you can keep up with training and conditioned but everyone likes each other and it really is a good group. The owner of the property and the barn managers are just like one of the boarders. They just want people at their barn that want the best care for their horses....

AND people that like to drink.... a lot of it... often

Anyone have any recommendations for schooling breeches? I have 2 pairs of tailored sportsman- can we say UGLY and uncomfortable to boot- which are currently in the wash and wear a pair a day rotation... getting old.

A lot of the folks at my barn have the Kerrits breeches. I like the looks of them, and they have some for both warm and cool weather. Anyone know if they run true to size (S,M,L)?

Any other brands you guys could recommend? Not picky about color and I don''t care if they are full seat or not.

TB - I wish I could help. I used to have a pair that were awesome and lasted forever, but I have no clue what brand they were. I also wore chaps a lot and liked them.

thx anyway DF... I have done the chaps route. Way to d*mn hot already to do jeans and leather chaps.

I find that if I school in jeans/chaps or half chaps come show time and I put in my field boots my legs go silly and I forget how to ride. I just prefer to school in the boots I am going to use for the shows, but would love a riding tight/breeches that are cooler than the current ones I have. And I am sick of washing them ALL THE TIME.
29.gif

Its just like friends that school with happy mouth bits, or rubber snaffles... you cant use those to show, so why use them to school?! You are going to put your horse in a new ring with new sights sounds smells etc and new hardware?! No thank you. Keep my show routine as close to schooling as possible.
2.gif
The less "new" things the better.

*stepping off soap box*

I have two pairs of Ariat breeches and LOVE THEM!!! I have the low-rise fit, and they''re not full seat . . . just knee patches. Very comfy, cool enough for summer riding, and they really move with you in the saddle!

DF, there actually is bunny show jumping in Europe - it''s pretty popular! Most bunnies can jump at least 3ft, which is impressive. My bun is *not* a jumper though, so I can''t imagine he''d get that high comfortably.

It really sounds like an awesome barn. Growing up I always wanted that feeling of belonging, but not being a rich kid with my own horse, I just didn''t fit in. I would love to get a horse as an adult and ride at an awesome barn like that.

Irish: do they run true to size? What size should someone get if I am between a 6 and an 8 depending on the brand of jean?? I have a boat load of Ariat boots, but I don''t think I have owned a piece of clothing from them. I like the low rise option... I am short waisted but realllllly tall, so when I get breeches/pants to fit my legs the waist is always at my b**bies.

Of course! We''ll have bunny tack rooms and stalls not to mention your very own drinkin'' cup! I am sure we could toss a lesson or two your way.

Oh you are singing my song about the belonging bit... my family was military growing up and poor dad made beans for pay. I wanted my own horse so bad I could taste it! I never had the feeling of being part of a horsey group until college. After graduation I got kinda crazy and acquired a horse or *2*
5.gif
. I just told my family I was making up for all the years I couldn''t afford one. Its worked out nicely my retirees get to go live at my parents recently acquired farmette

How''s everyone one else doing? DragonFly, how are the new clients? Are you enjoying the barrel lessons?!

TB, I can''t remember what size mine are! LOL! I''ll have to check. I think you and I are about the same size (I usually wear a 6 or 8 in jeans too, depending on the brand). And I''m short-waisted too! I''m only 5''4" but most of my "short" is concentrated between my shoulders and my butt! LOL!

elro- he can be a pleasure bunny

haha Irish, I have genormous (is that even a word?!) ta-tas and wide hips, so when you combine that with no length in the body I look like a square with twigs for legs. I''m 5''8-5''9 depending on the day of the week so pants shopping is always an adventure.... then add a little spandex in breeches

Thx for checking Hun.

DF: Snort... Pleasure Bun... hehe. A good all arounder is worth their weight in gold Elro... all the other bun owners will be jealous

No problem, TB! They''re a 32R, but that''s because I like them a little on the looser side . . . if you like them to fit tighter, you''d probably want to go with a smaller size. I remember trying on the next size down (I guess that would have been a 30R?) and I thought they were just a little too tight through the hip/butt region. If they were regular pants, it probably would have been fine, but I like to be able to actually MOVE when I ride! Two-point is so much easier when you can actually GET UP THERE! LOL! Also, I always wear a belt with mine so they don''t gap at the waist and still allow room for the booty! BTW, I have the same ta-tas problem as you, AND I have some . . . um . . . "junk in the trunk" too! LOL!
