The new age Robin Hood... stealing from the poor to give to the rich.

I'm deeply saddened by the advancement (and likely passage) of the "Big, S̶h̶a̶m̶e̶f̶u̶l̶ Beautiful Bill." I encourage everyone to unbiasedly research the inherent repercussions to low-income households. By slashing Medicaid/ACA, education, and social services, which, in turn, will fund tax breaks for, you guessed it, corporations, the fossil fuel industry, and the wealthy, we will be widening the ever-growing wealth gap (i.e. the root of just about every problem we have in this country). Naturally, they threw in a few crumbs for news networks to tout and use as a diversion, such as federal tax exemptions on tips and overtime. What they didn't tell you was that tipped workers make up only about 2.5% of the workforce, and those who do earn meager overtime wages make up only about 12% of the workforce. Of course, workers will still have to pay all FICA taxes, along with state and/or local taxes. Further, a whopping 40% of tipped workers don’t even make enough money to have to pay federal income tax on their earnings. And yet, still no raise in the minimum wage to provide working people with a livable income. Why? Because it would make an actual difference... but not for the "right" people. It's difficult not to be angry with those responsible for voting-in these executives and legislators, but I'm still determined to try and make a difference rather than wallowing in my fury. Indeed, those voters include family and friends who I love immensely (and unconditionally).

I don't want to start a war with this post... but this has been weighing heavily on my heart. I appreciate the opportunity to vent to a community I respect.

I just watched TLDR's video on it. It does seem concerning, even in this short form content.

I dont understand
1) why some people are voting for it and then saying they didnt read it or they dont agree with it. Isn't that the point? You read it, and if you dont agree you dont vote for it?
2) how some people in high up positions are allowed to straight up lie about what's in it. How many times has it been said that this bill "strengthens medicaid" when its just straight up cutting it? How is cutting $1,000,000,000,000.00 strengthening it?

I've seen headlines calling it the biggest wealth transfer upwards (poor to rich) in american history. For the top 0.1%, they will be almost $300,000 richer each year due to tax breaks. That is almost 10x more than the average american MAKES in a year.

My guess would be party affiliations and dependency.

3.3 trillion added to the national debt in this bill. So anyone who thinks this helps to pay down the debt is misinformed. Large tax breaks for big oil corporations (that he promised in return for election “support”) along with rolling back environmental protections, free to pollute our air and water and make us and the planet sicker. Long list of assaults to American’s unless in the upper income brackets. It will be very eye opening for many who voted for this.
It’s really stick’n it to our grandchildren’s generation and beyond.

Yeah, it was more rhetorical  . We all know they don't actually care about the people they are representing, otherwise they wouldn't vote to defund millions of their constituents' health care.

There is also misinformation being spread about the bill (by someone who's job it is to inform with facts ). They are purposely hiding things in it to push it through with the other big things that they use as tag lines. Billionaires don't need tax cuts.

It also has very worrying similarities to the legislation that let Hitler loose. https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/the-enabling-act

50,000+ people will die per year from lack of care. Including children.
It will kick more than 17 million off of care because it ends the ACA subsidies many more rely on to buy insurance on the market.
The current estimate is 1000 rural hospitals will close.
1 in 4 nursing homes.
Head start, SNAP, afterschool programs, lunches for children etc. all gone.
Most social protections will be gutted.

The estimate is around 5 trillion if temporary provisions are made permanent.
The biggest debt explosion and wealth theft from the people in history.

It helps no one but the rich.
We're already negative 0.5% GDP growth last quarter.
It will likely cause the GDP to retract to the point of recession and possibly depression.
Tariffs haven't even begun yet.
Up to 100K jobs will be lost within the year, that's already started. The cascade will cause many more over the next several years.
No FEMA for the upcoming storm season.
People are already taking loans to buy food. Food scarcity and increased prices from lack of harvesting/imports. Millions will starve. Evictions will skyrocket. Crime will explode from desperation. The birthrate will plummet year over year.
You can choose to read possible outcomes, or not. It's just a quick overview of some of the most immediate.
It is the singularly most stupid, greedy and shortsighted thing we could possibly do.
People have no idea how this will truly negatively impact them. No idea.
How badly they were lied to.
They will. Soon.

What absolutely boggles my mind is how people aren't interested in it. I'm sure they don't think it will impact them, but they are so wrong! Hospitals in LA (UCLA, Cedars-Sinai - the important research hospitals!!!) are already making cuts and freezing funds due to potential Medicare cuts. Rural hospitals will close. This means longer wait times, cuts in care, crowded ERs, fewer RNs and support staff, more deaths, and we get to pay for the deficit these hospitals will face. :wall:

This is only one part of this horrible, inhumane, disgusting budget. How can anyone not care about it?! It's basically saying, "We don't care about the elderly, poor, disabled, or children! Screw them!"

I am so angry right now! :x2

Someone in the House or Senate, can't remember who, commented yesterday on the carveouts that happened to get those senators who threatened to vote no to vote yes: "If it's necessary for some states to receive carveouts, maybe we shouldn't vote for the bill."

So now we have 2 or 3 states, can't remember, who will not be as adversely affected as the others which just continues to exacerbate the inequities that occur when deals are made for a few.

The bill weakens the country is big ways. Weak countries are vulnerable. That should give everyone pause. The repercussions of this big stinky bag of Screenshot 2025-07-03 at 10.09.28 AM.pngwill be felt for decades and I predict that the party enacting this legislation will not be the one blamed for it.

What concerns me is that people are only focusing on a few parts of this bill, such as Medicaid, or extending the 2017 tax cuts and are not looking at it in totality. There's a lot in there that they are not talking about which I think are important as well. People won't even hear about them until it starts impacting them. Some are mentioned in the spoiler @ItsMainelyYou posted. But there are even more.

We're not sure what all the new House changes are as of yet. It's a secret. We know they gave the holdouts signed merch...seriously. Merch and autographs after the secret meeting.

Most of the MSM have overview articles on the Senate version.

Can someone link us to an easy to read summary?

What is being cut?
What is being added?

Topline needed. I’ll search for it.

The summaries that I find all pretty much focus on the same "big" issues and don't even mention some of the smaller ones like school voucher programs; a provision which would severely restrict federal courts’ authority to hold government officials in contempt if they violate judicial orders ( I think the Senate may have modified this but its still there and still onerous for those seeking to bring an action against the government by requiring plaintiffs to post huge bonds); a 10-year ban on the enforcement of all state and local laws that regulate artificial intelligence (AI), including rules for AI’s use in political campaigns and elections (not sure where this stands I think the Senate reduced it to 5 years and made a few other changes). There are others but you have to really hunt for them because the summaries really focus on tax code, Medicaid and immigration. My real point is that people don't really know all the things that are in this bill and therefore haven't had an opportunity to figure out how they feel about some of these other issues, that can be impactful. Even some of the members of Congress have admitted they haven't read the entire bill, yet they still vote for it.

I was under the impression that the House wasn't making any changes to the Senate version because then it would have to go back to the Senate and not make the July 4 phony deadline.

This kicks those cut programs to be implemented and funded by the states themselves, if they choose to?

Which states will want to, vs can?

And it’s back to trickle down economics providing for the middle/lower classes and your local community should be your resources when you need help - not the big government. Which then expands on who that is taking care of the ones who can’t take care of themselves instead of being in the workforce? Who was that historically?

Help explain if that’s not reading it right.

What is really perplexing is that many of the states that will feel the most pain are the red ones.

It just passed the House. So it is now the law of the land. Oh and by the way, many of the provisions don't kick in until after the mid-terms. You can figure out why.

Almost none of them have the capability. Oh, you've hit the subtext, all right. Trouble is, that's the larger part of our most educated eventually being yanked out the workforce or leaving all together.

The question will eventually become what is the point of gov't if it drains resources as a protectionist without benefit to states, and using those resources against said states?

How do these people look in the mirror? How do they live with themselves?

Welp… congratulations, I guess.

We need a crying emoji. We aren’t even 7 months in yet. Now we get a Big Beautiful Disaster. Such fun!

I’m beyond disgusted and right there with you @Autumn in New England.

I guess it shouldn't be surprising that the stupid and selfish have won.
We wewewes have lost to those MEMEMEs.

America, I'm gonna miss you. :knockout:
France should demand America returns The Statue of Liberty, or at least edit its poem.

I’m sure there will be challenges to parts of this law. I’m just waiting to see how the new plaintiffs bond requirements will affect them. I would think that part will be challenged as it severely limits the ability to challenge the Feds in Court and effectively keeps many out of the ability to do so

I think about the folks that will lose their healthcare and many that will lose their lives because of it. The elderly and children in particular. I’m haunted by the lack of care by this government when children will go to school and to bed hungry, all so that the big corporations and billionaires can have tax cuts. The cuts to education and clean energy. The Diverting of hundreds of millions of dollars into I.C.E. programs where deliberate cruelty reigns. Immigrants and others will suffer being inhumanely caged in internment camps, one jokingly referred to as “Alligator Alcatraz”, and it goes on and on.
The cruelty is astounding, sickens me.

The cruelty is astounding

The cruelty is the point.
Ironic: all lives matter
Ironic: women and in particular poor women without access to abortion can now have babies that may not have health care and food. I wonder if the family of the baby who will be born from its brain dead mother will need the help of social services to raise it.
