The Most Beautiful House in America is up for sale...

I like it as an art gallery. I'd visit and pay my £15. As a house it's dark and depressing with limited natural light and a kitchen far too small and outdated for any practical purpose.

Excellent gallery though! The brown features and obstructed windows I'd hate in a house really do make it a neat viewing space.

Actually, I've been inside that house numerous times (have you?) and it is filled with natural light. Its not dark at all.

The carpet is there to protect the original hand-hewn hardwood floors from the literally thousands of visitors that pass through the gallery. To convert the gallery back to a home, yes, walls need to be painted different colors and the carpet needs to come up. But overall this home is in excellent condition and is a beautiful property filled with light.

I’m so jealous that you’ve seen all that stunning stained glass in person. It is simply amazing!

That house in the original post was Castle Gallery. I know it because my work was exhibited there. The owners are fabulous and work hard promoting the arts in their community. It was really a hub of life in the area with collectors driving in from out of state.

It looks "busy" because its a gallery filled with paintings and sculptures that are (were) for sale. The owners also lived in the house and wanted to show clients what it is like having artwork in a home environment. Yes, for a regular house it has too much art, but remember, its a gallery.

They threw the best parties with live jazz bands. I'll see if I can dig photos off my phone from opening nights. I remember being packed in there like sardines, everyone laughing and having a great time, art selling like crazy. Good memories.

The house was designed by an important architect in the region and has historical significance.

Somehow I missed this post. Thanks for sharing the story of this amazing gallery/house. I’d love to see some of your artwork, @RunningwithScissors!
