This is more of a "body parts" rant than a "bling" rant; and I honestly find it funny more than anything; but my earlobes are ginormous. They're deceptively big, actually. They eat up earrings and are always hungry for more - I have three piercings, and my day-to-day look has a 2ct earring in my main piercing, a 0.4ct stud in the second, and a 0.25ct stud in the smallest piercing. And yet, somehow, there's plenty of ear-estate to go around. I could cram in several extra carats without trying.

I was hanging out with a friend who has teeny tiny earlobes (compared to mine - probably normal sized compared to others) and she was telling me how she wanted a pair of every day studs. (I could see exactly where she was going with this - it isn't the first time). She says something along the lines of "I just want something nice but not OTT, you know? Like a decent size so they're visible, but not super large and taking over the ear. I think 1.5ctw across both ears would be good - is that what yours are? I think that size is just perfect!"

So, biting back a laugh, I told her "ah, not exactly... they're quite a bit bigger than 1.5ctw. Though 1.5 on you would look similar to these on me - they're 4ctw, but my ears are elephantine." I could see that she didn't believe me about how big my ears are - because the rest of me is kind of petite, so people expect my ears and hands to match (they don't) - so I offered them to her to try. When I took the earring off her eyebrows crept up to her hairline, and when she put them on her ear, the entire lobe was covered. Any bigger, and they'd be obstructing her hearing.

She's a really close friend btw, and meant absolutely no harm. Her expression when she realised she'd inadvertently thought my earrings were less than half the size they actually were was quite hilarious. Though I do wish I had her tiny lobes!!

Let's hear your rants! :D

I can relate to this.

My hands are basically deformed. I have Dupuytrens and swelling in all my knuckles and there’s no treatmen for the swelling as it’s due to my anatomy. I’m just grateful I still have use of my hands for however long that will last. I wear bubbalah and love her but I do need to get a special setting made that will allow her to go over my knuckles and stay on my finger because my fingers where the ring is worn is not swollen. It’s a very costly setting and involves me waiting a long time to get it back. I haven’t started the process yet but I need to.

So yeah I get how you feel.

oh no! Can you get your ring on and off right now, or does it get stuck?

So far I’ve been managing but it’s hard and it makes my knuckles even worse. They hurt enough as it is but what what we endure for the love of our bling lol

I will add there are some days I cannot squeeze her over my knuckles so she doesn’t get worn those days

Same problem @missy They make these neat hinges for rings for big knuckle gals like us. I should do it too!!

I will share the info with you when I start the process if you’re interested. My mom did it for her ring 40 years ago and it was super pricey then but it is worth it imo

I have annoying finger pudge, even if my rings are the correct size, they still look too tight. Add a band and forget it, sausage city. I’ve learned to position my fingers in a way to make it less obvious for pictures but it is still annoying.

You probably already thought about this but how about a thicker band? Those might look more flattering with that issue

It probably would, maybe I’ll try one. I’ve also found that elongated shapes help a bit, my emerald cut looks a little better than my round solitaire. Will probably focus on more elongated cuts going forward.

I didn’t know you had a pink band! Beautiful! And always love seeing your OEC. I’m sorry to hear about the knuckle issue.

I have the same problem! It’s really annoying because my fingers aren’t actually squishy and the ring size is fairly average (US5.5-5.75) but somehow a ring is all they need to make them sausagey. I’ve given up, to tell the truth :D

I have the same problem @AllAboardTheBlingTrain . I have 3tcw but want 4. Even 4 to me looks “normal”. Pics of 3 and 4 below (4 are CZs since I can’t afford 4 - in fact have been toying with going the lab route for years.

My ears are actually even bigger than yours!! :lol-2: in fact I was thinking how nice and balanced your earlobes look until I read what you wrote.

Earlobe rant!
My lobes have become less substantial and thinner with age. So heavy earrings pull and look weird, and most of my studs droop.
I kinda hate the jumbo metal earring backs. I think they are weird and bulky.

So I cut little discs from thin clear plastic and poke a hole in the middle.
Then I use this between my ear and the push back. These discs keep my studs upright, and are invisible.

I have the same problem as you ladies (large knuckles, skinny fingers), in fact I was googling arthritic ring shanks yesterday, but due to the thinness of my current ring shank, I cannot have it installed on my current setting.

In order to get any ring over my ring finger knuckle comfortably, I would need a size 6, but the bottom of my finger is around 5.25, so they spin once on. I have had to have sizing balls welded into some of my rings to prevent spinning.

You’re not alone @YadaYadaYada, I’ve got quite small hands and pudgy fingers, my ring size is 6.75 and in this heat, there are days I struggle to get them off and on.

Same! my rings are 6 and 6.25. I live in Florida. winter time, they are close to falling off anytime I’m cold and in the summer they can be snug if I’m overly hot.

I have thin small lobe problem too! My piercings are also stretched so they look like a thin line instead of a small hole. I use these ear patches I buy on Amazon for support, especially when I wear hoops or hanging earrings.

Here's mine. A couple decades back I dated a guy for a while, nice enough but kind of clueless. He was fun enough to go out with, but there was no real connection, at least from my viewpoint. So it was a huge surprise one day he sat down beside me and said " want to get married, you OK with that?". Before I could answer he had a ring box in his hand and took out and tried to put on my hand a wide yellow gold band with a rectangular princess cut that stuck way up and was mounted sideways. I was relieved when it didn't go over my knuckle. Maybe the ring was someone else's taste, but not mine. With the exception of he 24kt gold chain my late husband gave me, I won't wear yellow. With the shape of my fingers, wide bands aren't comfortable and I don't own one. I don't like square and rectangular diamonds, period. I wouldn't mount the stone sideways even if you paid me to. And I'd NEVER want the stone to stick up high from the mount, especially when I was younger and harder on my hands.

So this epically ugly ring missed on every single design element, the guy just had no clue about my tastes, hadn't even tried. I'm glad he tried to give it to me though, it told me it was time to Exit Stage Left! :lol-2: :lol-2:

I am happy that I don't have piercings on body parts that have abdicated their pride to gravity. That said, a couple years ago as I was putting in my studs I noticed a crease on one earlobe which sent me into a despair fueled rant about the indignity of aging. Then quite by accident when googling about energy efficient dishwashers, I stumbled on an article about Frank's sign, an earlobe crease that indicates a greater risk of heart attack. Ever since then when studding my lobes I'm confronted with the warning sign of my potential demise. I'm still considering getting studs large enough to cover the crease. Out of sight out of mind. Studs with a 2" spread oughta do it.

You can actually buy those little plastic discs from various sources, and they are pretty cheap; I have some. They fit posts with an average thickness. My thickest earring posts are too thick for the holes.
plastic earring discs

I have large ear lobes that are meaty . No drooping here, thankfully. But most studs look so small on my lobes!

HI:

I've never had big lobes, but now they suffer from deflate gate. I wear mostly dangle earrings and have gotten rid of my large pearls and diamond studs since they looked unflattering on me. I have large hands for a small framed person--I inherited my Mom's hands. So I can pull of large rings....

cheers--Sharon

I feel the same way about elongated shapes. i think they make my fingers looks a little longer. I love how round shapes look on everyone else’s fingers but my own. If a round shaped stone is on my hand all I manage to see is my large knuckle. Your avatar photo is beautiful @YadaYadaYada.

Thanks so much! I never really took notice of elongated shapes until seeing one in a halo and then I was like Hmmmmmm :twisted2:

I have giant hands. I’m just giant in general. (6’1) I love dainty, ultra femme pieces and usually they just sooo itty bitty on me. My fantasies of Kataoka…ugh their pieces would just disappear on my frame

I wear a size 8 ring, honestly don’t have pudgy fingers…(no shade, I’ve got curves lol)

But wow it’s so hard to find rings that fit that also feel proportionate without look masculine!

I nearly died of embarrassment when trying on a gorgeous eternity at Tiffany’s - and they don’t even make my size! VCA’s between the finger rings? Forget it.

The standard 16” necklace is basically a choker on me. I tried on watches on Cartier recently and the SA said “Wow, the 36 mm size actually looks great on you - your wrists are smaller than I thought, I thought you’d look better in a 40!” :???: She immediately regretted it

I’m all of that but 5’6”! Size 10 shoe, 7 glove, 8 ring size. And tiny ear lobes. Short neck, big boobs, very short waist and linebacker shoulders. I wish to be dainty, but it is not to be. And the knuckle problem is starting to rear it’s ugly head….

I have short stubby hands and I can’t wear navette rings or even wear a wedding ring with my e ring that’s 14mm without it touching it my knuckles or all my other rings .The only thing that looks appropriate is my 1.8 mm plain band. Forget stacks. But atleast I have small lobes!
