Hello everyone!

The second I decided that I was ready to propose to my long-time girlfriend, I knew I was going to need some help. Luckily, I found Pricescope right away and have been a dedicated pupil ever since then, collecting as much information as I could. However, now that my search for a ring has reached fever pitch, I come to you all for some much needed advice and assistance.

My girlfriend and I began looking at settings over a month ago. We stumbled on one at Jared that she completely fell in love with. The link to it is here:

Setting from Jared

I really liked this setting as well. I came back a little while later and was ready to purchase it...until I told the salesperson my girlfriend''s ring size (4.75). Apparently they cannot resize it to that size without it being made oval or causing the stones to get loose by stretching the prongs.

Discouraged, I left Jared and went to look at one of the only few diamond stores in the area I hadn''t checked out yet. To my surprise, they had almost the exact same setting(only higher quality and more expensive)! Here is that one:

Setting from Shane Co

Now, Shane Co said that they would be able to resize it to what I needed no problem within a day or three. I was about to just buy it before I realized that this setting would put me way over my budget when I added in tax and the $200 they charge to set a stone in it.

I would love to be able to find her this setting somewhere else. I called both Jared and Shane Co and they were unable or unwilling to tell me where the setting comes from. I am keeping up hope that I will find it somewhere else since I found it at two different B&M''s right next door to one another, but I''ve looked at an awful lot of others and haven''t seen it.

What can I do? I am down to my last two weeks now to get this thing put together. Should I just throw my initial budget out the window and spend an additional $1500 and just get it from Shane Co? Should I just get a nice simple pave setting (she likes those too and I think there''s something beautiful in their simplicity)? Does anyone know of any possible way to track down this setting elsewhere? I think custom is out of my realm of possibilities at this point due to my time constraints. I would love you guys forever for any advice you could aid me with.

Take some time and look through the casting company websites. If you can locate it then any vendor can order it for you:

www.adwar.com

I am honestly not loving the profile of that ring or the peg head, and the diamonds on the side will scratch a wedding band worn next to it

... was it the whole enchilada that she loved... the profile, the head, the diamonds on the shank... or did she just love having diamonds on the shank? If the latter then there are many options out there. Of course, all that matters is that she loves it, so if she loved the whole thing then try your best to find a similar ring!

Thank you for the quick response dreamer! That bit of information about the diamonds scratching the wedding band is the kind of thing I couldn''t possibly know without you all''s advice. Maybe I have been beating my head against the idea of this thing for too long...Honestly I don''t feel like the pictures do it justice though. I''m not particularly impressed with the pictures either.

Honestly, what I need in a perfect engagement/wedding ring:
1. Small diamonds on the shank, 1/2 or 3/4 the way around.
2. Thin bands (2mm or so)
3. No milgrain or anything like that, preferably rounded edges.
4. I guess that''s it...she would honestly love anything I got her I know it.

Time to get to work perusing those sites you offered me! Thanks again. :)
