Here is the stone we will have decided to go with after much research. We will make the purchase in a couple days...last chance for any comments or questions!:

Carat: 3.05 (i had to edit this post- i forgot to put in the size before! it's funny b/c i made sure to put in the crown and pav. angles...just goes to show how priorities have changed as far as the most important details of a diamond since hanging out on this site!!!)

This is a stone from GOG. If you see my older posts- I was one of those people convinced that we needed to go to Tiffany's to get the best stone! Well, my mind has been completely changed. Jonathan and everyone else who was even remotely involved in our experience with GOG was absolutely, 100% incredible to work with. They are not only extraordinarily knowledgeable, (NOT the case at Tiffany's by the way) but unbelieveably nice and fun as well! It was a true pleasure...and this stone 100% blew me away. I was not even prepared to find something that was THIS incredible. I have so much to say...but I will stop here for now.

ha! i can't believe i forgot to put down the size...i put down everything else!!!

we went with the 3.05 I SI1 When we went back to see them again- my main concern was to double check the color- I hadn't originally wanted to go below "G". Well- when I saw them again, I knew instantly that I was going with an "I"- I guess it because the cut is so amazing...I just couldn't believe how white it was. You could have told me it was a "G", and I would have been totally fooled. But this time around, I was definitely able to see the difference in size between the 2.76 and the 3.05. (Last time we were looking at so many stones at once, they all started to look the same!). Anyway- I loved the bigger look, and it was 100% as sparkly and brilliant as the 2.76 I VS2...so we went with the 3.05.

Ha! This is funny. Your pattern was almost exactly my pattern of buying & self discovery!

it's such a fun process. from beginning to end- from being so sure i would never buy SI1, for example, and then having jonathan email me, basically laughing b/c he just wanted me to see the SI1 in person before i could make a statement like that... then SEEING the SI1 and being completely blown away by it! from thinking we HAD to go to tiffany's to get a top quality stone, to realizing that we could a BETTER stone, and a much better price elsewhere...it was just all very exciting and educational, and truly satisfying in the end.

i am still in love with the tiffany setting, and we are getting an identical replica custom made for us by a jeweller here in nyc.

ok...so this is it...no comments/concerns/questions? i've waited a long time for the day i could post the specs on my future stone....i would absolutely love and truly appreciate any final comments from the forum that has helped me so much!

The specs on the stone look great, but more importantly, you have seen it in person and love it, and that's the bottom line. The only thing I see spec-wise to even look at to make sure you are happy with, is the color. There are LOTS of people with I colored stones. Color is personal -- some people see more than others do, some people prefer warmer colors, some want icey white. If you've seen it and love it, go for it!

See, that is my only concern. I see alot of posts with people discussing how they won't go below "G". I saw this stone and thought it was breathtaking. I did not, however, compare it side by side to a "G". I felt like- if I love it this much- why do I need to compare it next to something that it way out of our price range? I want to keep the size up there...and I will not sacrifice cut...I just thought it was stunning, and would have never guessed it was an "I" if I had not already known. I guess I am just confused about why people would have an issue with "I". I just didn't see it. I feel like I wouldn't spend the money for a "G" b/c "I" is so amazing. But of course- since we are one day away from paying- all the concerns run through your mind, b/c the stone isn't in front of me right now to remember how much I love it, ya know? I guess I'm just looking for a little confirmaion...peace of mind.

Like I said, color is personal. I think once you find a stone, you have to quit thinking about it's specs and starting thinking only about how it looks to you. You can always nickle and dime specs, but what really matters is how pretty the stone is, not it's paper pedigree. A lot of time people say don't go below G in order to "safely" buy a stone sight unseen. Since you've seen it, you are in a different position.




And, what color metal are you going to set it in? There is a thread in the show me the ring of lots of I colored stones in platinum that look great. Setting it in yellow gold makes the whole color question even less of an issue. Check out that thread if you want some reassuarance.

I think I was just having a momentary, imaginary concern- if that makes any sense. Everytime I have seen the stone in person ALL concerns have flown right out the window. All done worrying now!!! Thanks!

Iknowquinn, I remember your search, and I think I was actually supporting you on the Tiffany's option. At the time, I remember looking through the inventories of almost ALL of the PS Vendors and non-PS vendors, and finding NOTHING really impressive at G color with SI1 clarity. Prices seemed to hover them around $19K, if I remember correctly. Tiffany's may have been a bit more, I don't remember...

I don't think there is ANYTHING in this world impossible to find, all you need is patience and time. If you were not in a rush, then this was the best way to do it. Wait, keep searching and patience and time turns up the PERFECT stone!

Now you have us all dying to see pictures of it! Can't wait! Congrats on the stone, and I am SO glad you find the right stone, and hopefully saved a truck load of money from NOT shopping at a pricey name brand store...which will remain nameless...

Quinn.....please.....stop second guessing yourself. You've seen the stone, and you love it. Worrying about getting affirmation from a bunch of other people who haven't seen the stone is pointless.




Yes, some people say they won't go below G. With a few of them, it's because they truly are color sensitive. But why do you care? If you were color sensitive, you wouldn't have loved the look of the I, right?




With the greatest bulk of people, they set a cutoff at G arbitrarily....it's what they want to see *on paper*.




You've seen your stone, you love it.......buy the darned thing and stop fretting!

How exciting! I have been a color snob up til I started researching on PS. I would (and I can't believe I am saying this!!) without a doubt, go with an I color as long as it was a true ideal cut!!! Especially if I could go with a 3 ct RB!

I suppose IceLady and I are parallel on a few things. I too was (still am, who am I kidding!) a color snob, so in shaped stones, there is smaller allowance for it. In an RB, if it's ideally cut, that stone will look WHITE and may only be rivaled by a D. Frankly, at 3cts, WHO has a D to put next to yours?!

I am still in love with Hest's J colored white stone!

This sounds like an excellent stone! Also, I totally trust Jonathan's eyes too, and can only imagine how awesome it looks! We are drooling with anticipation!!! PICTURES!!!

yes, yes. i fully agree. it's all about the round brilliant ags 000, hearts and arrows- the whole enchilada. when the round stone is cut soely to maximize the brilliance of the stone- the "I" color is absolutely remarkable. I think this is really wonderful to know and consider for those that buy their stones sight unseen over the net.
