The Final Decision: 1.8 VVS2 J vs 1.7 VVS1 H... You pick!!!

Ok you diamond gurus.... Lots of research and I've narrowed it down to these two. They are from a virtual inventory so I don't have actual images. We're going on specs alone! Option 2 is slightly more $$$ but smaller size.

In all honesty, I personally would not pay for VVS clarity. VS would be just fine and might allow you a higher color or larger stone. You may have personal or cultural reasons for choosing that clarity but if not, I'd reconsider that aspect of your purchase.

I want it to be 100% eye clean but I agree the VVS1 is overkill. I had been looking at stones in the VS1 range originally but was surpised that these were a very small % more to go to VVS2 or VVS1. I'll go back and check to see if there are any good VS1's that might save me a few $$.

At least from my research, the jump in price on color far outweighs the jump in prices on clarity once you're in the VS-VVS range.

Interestingly I don't see anything in the same price range as the above stones once you go from H -> G color. I did however find this VS1 that also looks good for a little bit less $$

This stone is particularly deep and has additional weight in the girdle. You would be losing spread with this stone.

Are you using the search engine at the top of the page? You can input carat weight, color, and clarity ranges. Once the stones come up, you can choose AGS or GIA certified stones.

I don't know what your price range is - doing a quick search I found this which of course is in the middle of an H or a J with VS2 clarity. That VS2 you suggested looks really nice. My budget for the stone is <$15k. Yes, I'm using that search.

Ended up ordering both to do an in person comparison. Here is the 1.7 VVS1 H (left) and 1.8 VVS2 J (right). They were almost identical in person except for the color. I went with the H.

Yea it was a really tough call. I carried them both around for a day and compared them in all different situations. In some lighting they look exactly the same but in certain lighting this particular J stone was just a tad to much for me. I'm really happy with the H!

for an ering the H was the only choice........my earrings are J and that is fine but my HO is H ering is gorgous
