The crazy ride of a few weeks is over, I made up my mind!

Well, I have been up and down looking at settings and deciding a couple of times "this is it", and completely went sideways after being gifted a beautiful ring from my gam-gam.

I posted another thread about it, but to summarize, I had it appraised and it was worth a good bit. The diamond did have a questionable inclusion that could affect the structural integrity. It was huge (1.5ct aprox), but too fragile to reset, let alone recut.

As-is the ring just wasn't for my girlfriend. She has different taste from what was gifted, and I knew this, so I ended up trading it in, and using the trade-in towards a dream setting for her. Don't fret, the ring was no heirloom, but rather an estate sale purchase that was collecting dust in the jewelry box of my grandma. She gave me specific instructions to do whatever I wanted with it :)

I ended up going a little astray after falling out of love with a few halos. The Tacori 2620 was mentioned by her by name, and I think she loved the fact that the halo was so delicate and not overpowering. The problem is the 2620 is very thin and looks tiny on her finger (we were crushed). It's also $3500 for just the e-ring. Way out of our logical budget.

So I found this setting from Whiteflash along with a gorgeous (but back down to earth) Ideal Cut .60ct I VS2. http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/diamond-settings/three-side-pave-diamond-engagement-ring-1018.htm

18k White Gold /w Platinum Head Three Sided Pave with millgrain details. It's a very nice combination of things me and my girlfriend have talked about. Having almost 4mm of width, it won't look tiny on her finger, she loves pave down the side of her ring, and this has it on 3 sides (along with the detail on the sides that she really liked in the Tacori). It's white gold, it's beautiful, it's detailed, it's something different that not everyone is getting (ie: the current trends in the Halo-a-thon). Getting everything from whiteflash will afford us the opportunity to move up in size at a later date. Being just a solitare set diamond, the ring isn't going to be limited by the proportions of a halo.

I am going to get some input from her, but I have selected a few potential wedding bands to go with it. The ring I selected has a designed to match wedding band here:

http://www.whiteflash.com/wedding-bands/three-side-pave-diamond-wedding-band-737.htm

(sold as a set to see pics together http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/wedding-sets/three-side-pave-diamond-wedding-set-1475.htm)

I am not entirely sure I like the matchy-matchy of this, and I think it's a bit overwhelming putting 2 3-side pave's up against each other.

The ring I am leaning towards is:

Love the detail, but it can only be sized up to 6 (might be able to special order larger ... haven't inquired yet)

There's a little less detailed version without the millgrain around the bezel seen here that I also really like. http://www.whiteflash.com/right-hand-rings/danielle-jazz-bezel-diamond-right-hand-ring-174.htm

What do you guys think? You've been a fantastic help thus far and I treasure all the advice I've been afforded.

It's a beautiful setting and WF is amazing to work with! I would hold off on choosing the wedding band though. She may have very specific ideas of what she wants and enjoy the idea of shopping for the wedding ring together.

I almost feel guilty how many times I've emailed back and forth with Whiteflash. They're patient and awesome.

Yeah, they were pretty great working with me on a custom project too, their quality, craftsmanship and custom service are some of the best in the business! =)

Have you finalized your order yet?

For the e-ring, yes. Had one of those "drivers licence ID doesn't match the billing address" issues so technically it's finalized but it hasn't kicked into production just yet.

I have a three-sided pave e-ring and the matching wedding band and YES they are overwhelming together. I got a plain band that is what I usually wear with the engagement ring. I wanted something more like the bezel bands you linked to but my husband had already bought the matching band, so I am stuck at least until our first anniversary!

Gosh, I love sapphire centers and yours is so nice. So regal and high society!

There's actually a version of that bezel band I linked that alternates beautiful little sapphires with diamonds. What a stunning combo it would've been, if a sapphire center was an option for my other half.

Not sure why I've grown such an affinity for jewelry that -I- won't be wearing, but I sure do love looking at all the fabulous pieces people own and recommend here on Pricescope.

I love men who actually appreciate the quality of nice jewelry!

I think you are headed in the right direction with the ring, but I agree with Christina that you need to wait on the wedding band. It is more complicated than just choosing a style because it also needs to work with the height of the shank of the e-ring. So you'll need to wait and let her try on rings with her e-ring.

Waiting is going to be torture, but you guys are right. I mean, just take a look at what distracts had to say

Pretty much says it all. I would hate to assume the bezel would be the correct choice and have her feel the opposite!

WF is fabulous to work with, you won't be disappointed! You choose wisely and it should be spectacular!

Re: The crazy ride of a few weeks is over, I made up my mind

I had a similar experience with shipping....my credit card and drivers license is attached to our mailing address which is a PO box and of course they couldn't and I wouldn't have wanted them to ship to anything other than out physical address. In the end we did a wire transfer which eliminated all of the address problems. I can't wait to see your new ring!! =)

Re: The crazy ride of a few weeks is over, I made up my mind

It's on the way. If the ring is half as beautiful in person as it is in Becca's beautiful photography, I'll be in love with it.

One more day of waiting to see it in person. Whiteflash is awesome.

I love the flower pics they send ahead of time

Should be spectacular! Make sure to come back with hand pictures!

Oh it looks beautiful!!!
Looking forward to seeing handshots.

Re: The crazy ride of a few weeks is over, I made up my mind

the matched set is a bit much for my taste too, but I hate the idea of having the side pave covered up by a wedding ring (which is traditionally worn "closest to the heart) when the side pave is part of what attracted your GF to that e-ring in the first place.

As diamondseeker mentioned, you also need to think about matching the heights of the two rings.

Consider asking WF if they can make the matching wedding band with a plain top, maybe a bit convez with milgrained edges, with the pave sides. A tiny bit thinner might not hurt, either.
